I remember: shocking thunderstorms and intense lightening, a sandy beach nearby, watermelon, a pool in our backyard where a big snake drowned, my first splinter. My sister and I are so tanned in the photos. She sat on a red ant hill - ouch!

2009 update: my parents were back in the southern States for business and went to see our old house, which was completely flattened by huricaine Katrina. All that was left, they said, was the cement slab foundation with a depression where the bathtub once was, and a pool filled with sludge and debris.

We were on a family vacation, about to depart on a cruise. Athens was a busy city whirlwind so it was nice to find a little peace at the 'in breifing' - a conference room gently circulating with pleasant chit chat.

Some small glasses were passed around, cloudy as they had been chilled. I hestitantly took a shooter, as I was still quite young, barely a teenage. I believe before I had my first taste of shocking licorice liquide we all cheersed to health and a safe sea voyage with "Yia-mas"!

Mykonos Town, Cyclades, Greece

How on Earth did I get to be so lucky?

My family and I went on a cruise of the Greek Islands. We ate a lot, got sea sick once, soaked up the sun, and absorbed the classically beautiful white and blue colours on the islands. There weren't very much ship activities that my sister and I were interested in but Allyson and I did win a bingo game! Mykonos was by far our favorite island because of its beauty.

Our cruise stopped off in Turkey for a day. We toured a bazar/casbah and drank some tea.
I remember on our land approach, being surprised at how deep green colour the hills were, popluated with so many trees. The city buildings were a beautiful cream white colour - sublime beauty.

Sadly, I dont remember much about Austria. Too bad because I have read so much about it lately as the music and art centre of Europe in the 1700s, I'd love to check that out.
I asked my dad recently if we had been there before. He said, 'oh yes, many times, we loved it'. Hmm, what a pity. I suppose it still counts because the images of scenery must be in my mind somewhere... curse this short memory of mine!

It was a beautiful day. The ceremony was their favorite part - I agree that it was eye-wateringly good. Everyone at the wedding was Allyson and Jeremy's #1 fan! It was an awesome crowd. At dinner I said grace and after dinner I made a speech. It was great to talk with family and friends from the past. Dancing was a real ball too!

This is where my sister was born. It is much harder for her to say where she is from because our family never moved back there after she was born.

Oberamergau, Bavaria, Germany

Another work conference for my parents brought us to Oberammergau for a week. We stayed in the cutest little wooden cottage - like the whole thing ceiling to floor and including flowering window boxes was made out of wood! Totally picturesque like you've read about in Brothers Grimm fairy tales. Aromatic town bakery. Absolutely enchanting.
