Grand Junction, Colorado, United States

Two days in Las Vegas was enough, we headed to the Grand Cannon, but first crossing the Hover Dam then onwards towards the Grand Cannon, we stopped one night in a remote village south of the Grand Cannon in a cheap motel, not bad really, I am getting use to these motels now.
The next day was up early to get to a little airport to catch a Helicopter flight over and around the Grand Cannon, a amazing views as you will see in the photos.
Once landed and re-united with the car we headed for Mohab, famous for the stone carvings sights in the middle of the dessert, Carved soft rock from wind, rain, and earthquakes.
We then headed for Grand Junction, were we would aboard the Amtrax train for our 30 hrs journey to San Francisco....great!!!!,, once aboard and found our rabbit hutches, the train departed, beds were bunks which were also seats, Train full of stupid, crazy, fat Americans and Darren excited about his train experience. The rest of us looked at each other thinking what the next 30 hrs had in for us, Dinner was nice in the dinner cart, sleep was on an off with the train rocking and the train horn going off all the time.....
Breakfast was good, then went back to sleep then got up went for lunch, then wrote my blog and now only 1 hr away from San Francisco, thank god!!!!! Seriously it has been an experience and I am glad I have done it but also very glad it has come to an end...
Ian
Las Vegas, Nevada, United States

Leaving a cold but exciting snow covered mountains of Whistler, Matt and I head to Vancouver for him to catch his flight home and for me to catch my flight down to Las Vegas to meet Darren, Anne and Dave.
1 hour and 40 minutes later I land in a very windy Vegas, so windy in fact rumor around the airport was that it was going to close, It did shortly after..
Darren and co flight was due in half an hour behind me but canceled from Amsterdam due to the plane being over booked, So first night was on my own in Vegas, I received a txt from Darren saying the hotel Luxor are expecting me, I head there via the airport shuttle and walk into this enormous pyramid, unbelievable the pure size of this hotel, I head for check-in and I am told by the receptionist that my room has already been paid for by Ms Anne Turner, so thank you Anne again for that.
The room was very nice, I dumped my stuff and went to look at the sights, the casino was ahead of me, the atmosphere of noise and slots machine was what I expected from Vegas, I found a place to eat and had lamb shank and a nice glass of red and just people watched looking over at the gamble tables and slot machines.
Once I eaten dinner, I decided to go for a stroll, and get outside to see the neon lights of the strip, The hotels with all there own themes and looked amazing.
I walked down so far and decided to head back, due to wanting to see the rest of the sights with Darren, Anne and Dave, so I went back to the hotel room and got some rest.
Darren flight was now due in at 13:50, so I looked around a bit more in the morning then headed for the airport to welcome them to Las Vegas.
That afternoon they were tired obviously due to Jet lag, so we went down to the pool and relaxed, that night we had a buffet in the Luxor, then headed out to see all the sights, The only thing we bet on was a slot machine, I put in $3.00 and left with $11.00, that was it my betting was done for Vegas. We just walked through each hotel, I especially enjoyed the Belagio, we made it all the way down to the stratosphere, Jet lag was kicking in for the guys so we headed back to the Luxor and called it a night.
The next day we got our hire car and headed for the Grand Cannon.
All the best
Ian x
San Francisco, California, United States

Driving down through the wine country that is known as Napa into San Fransisco bay, going over the Golden gate bridge into the hustle and bustle of the city, we arrive at our Backpackers hostel in a not very good area, but the hostel was great, clean, quite and we had an en-suite not bad for $20 a night.

We settled in and had an early night.

The next day we were up and off to explore the city, a nice clean vibrant city, so much better than Seattle, walking through the city towards Pier 39 to look at Alcatraz in the distance and the sea lions making a noice while they sun bathe on the dock. it was nice to also feel the sun on us in temps around 28 0c, not bad for October.

We got a bite to eat downtown and then headed back to our hostel.

Thursday awoke, had our free bagel and o.j and planned on doing the tour to Alcatraz but unfortunately they were fully booked to Saturday, so no good for that, so Matt and i decided to head for another trip which took us under the Golden Gate Bridge and around Alcatraz Island an hour an half tour on the choppy waters....

After we headed for the cable tram and rode up and down the hilly streets back to Union Square, Matt had the last seat so i had to hang on the side board, an experience with the US drivers speeding past you.

That night we headed out on the town and found some very nice bars hidden in the San Fransisco streets, and ended up talking to two English girls from London, who were traveling from New York to L.A in a hire car and then to Australia, they seemed a good laugh so we all explored the night life together. A Bouncer gave me a list of good places to go, so hence when you see the photos of me plotting the route on the map in a bar, you now know why.

This morning we left early and headed for Santa Cruz, to camp but to our dismay we could not put the tent up because it was far to windy and the tent just keep falling over with all the guide ropes in and to top it off a tent went rolling past us into the bush while we were trying to hold onto ours, so we packed the van back up and headed for a cheap motel

So there you go, i will leave you with the pictures, best withes to Elizabeth Moxey on her recovery, I am glad to hear she is getting better, you had me worried for a while x

All the best Ian x
