Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

i guess the biggest difference in the big city was us. our perspective has changed over the last month and we are not the scared little babies we were when we first arrived. oh and the black out was kinda cool.
Buon Ma Thuot, Vietnam

so we started out from Na Trang and on the back of small motorcycles we travel all day and see some amazing things, lobster farm, fishing town, brick factory, shrimp farm, incense making (from scented wood), horrific traffic accident, coffee plantation, pepper farm and so much beautiful country. at the end of the day we spent the night next to some waterfalls in a small cabana.
Nha Trang, Vietnam

Just a pit stop before heading into the Central Highlands with the "Easy Riders". This morning we flew out of Hoi An to Nha Trang, a popular beach city and home of the 2008 Miss Universe Pageant. Having already burnt ourselves in Hoi An we are opting to leave this hectic place in the morning to experience some authentic rural culture - off the beaten path. We will spend three days on the back of motorcycles weaving our way through the mountainous Central Highland region ending our journey in Dalat (AKA. Le Petit Paris). This will be our last Hoorah before making our way back to Saigon and finally home.
Hoi An, Vietnam

Ok, so we made it to Hoi An after 24 hours of sleeping on buses, waiting around, and then more bus action. But Hoi An is a very nice little town which specializes in tailoring and shoe making. We rented bicylces the first day and cruised around looking for good food which we found near the river... wonderful Vietnamese treats, our favorite where the fresh marinated pork spring rolls and the passion/strawberry/lime sorbet. Yummy. Kelly had some clothes made as well as a few pair of shoes and then we moto-ed to the beach for some fun sunburn time. All in all we spent a lot of money here, but it was a good time and found that the custom clothes experience is quite a rush.

P.S. While the Thien Trung Hotel was nice and relatively affordable (only $15 night) we always felt like the staff was working against us and cannot recommend staying there.
Ninh Binh, Vietnam

Took a day trip from Hanoi to the Ninh Binh area, we never actually learned the official names of the places we visited, to see some pagodas of ancient kings..... and also took a slow boat through a narrow cannal to see magnificent Karst formations (like those of HaLong Bay) and cruised through 3 caves, rowing all the while. The experience was pretty cool, but it was very hot and the whole ordeal felt like more of the Same Same. While in Hanoi we revisited our favorite watering hole " Le Pub" before heading off to Hoi An via overnight bus....

Will post pics soon...
Sapa, Vietnam

So after an overnight train and a short bus into the mountains we arrive in SaPa. It's so different from what we have seen up to now. Nice cool weather and recently some monsoon rains. Being a mountain town we are forced to walk up and down steep steps and winding streets..... my legs hurt so badly from all the trecking that I can hardly walk!! Luckily the man at the pharmacy hooked us up with some nicey pain killers. Beware fellow travelers of the children from the villages selling thier wares, they will swarm around you and you will feel obligated to buy.... be prepared, don't make eye contact unless you intend to close the deal. We bought way too many things and although they are very nice, we now have to pack them around for the rest of our trip. Tonight we get back on the night train to the city where we will embark on the second half this incredible journey!
Halong Bay, Vietnam

Ha Long Bay, picturesque and breathtaking..... overcrowded and full of garbage. The scenery was beautiful but the overwhelming number of tourists and all they leave behind was less than ideal. We went on an amazing treck through Cat Ba National Forrest and saw some of the biggest spiders ever!! The Beach (III) was perfect even though our tandum-bike was stolen and we had to pay to get it back..... We even danced the night away with our fellow travelers and tour guide at a local disco tech, crazy!!
