My experience in New York so far has been very positive. Stan Shaffer, the fashion photographer I assist just had his photography exposition on July 20 at PM Lounge, a hot spot nightclub in the Meat Packing District of NYC. His new work is amazing. Brea and my friend G, from Austin, went to the show with me. The show was sponsored by America Magazine and La Perla clothing. There were 20 executives from La Perla in Italy. I am working at Milk Studios as the night manager. I have only been here for two months and I all ready feel at home. The people I work with here are real professionals and great people as well. I am slowly realizing that this is the combination that it takes to make it in this business. My dad and sister came to visit me in NY last month. We went to the beach, had BBQ and just enjoyed each others company. I took them for a tour of Milk and we walked in the city. They went to Times Square and did some sightseeing while I was at work. It was so nice to see them. I hadn't seen my sister or dad in over 7 months! My friend Jeremy Smith and his girlfriend came and hung out with Brea and me for a couple of days. We went to a club in NYC one night and to the beach one day. I love the beach and it's only 15 mins away...which is so nice. It is now September in NYC I can't believe summer has come and gone so quickly. It's starting to get cool here in NY. Brea and I had our three year anniversary on July 11. We went to Puerto Rico for a week and relaxed by the beach in San Juan. We stayed at the Intercontinental Hotel, which has a casino, pool bar and a private beach. The weather was beautiful, even though we went during the rainy season. A tropical storm was headed straight for San Juan the day we arrived, but luckily it missed the coast by 100 miles. So, other than the occasional showers it was warm and sunny. We went to Old San Juan by the local bus, which is only $.75/person compared to the expensive $20.00 taxi ride that most tourists take. The old town is beautiful and all the buildings are painted in pastel colors like pink, yellow and blue. The city is set against the clear blue skies and bright green forests. We rented a car,called a Brio, for $20.00 at Charlie's Rental Cars for the whole day. We drove through the mountainous countryside to the rainforest called El Yunque. Met a man who sold bananas hand picked from the trees, saw amazing waterfalls and hiked to one of the highest points in Puerto Rico. August flew by quite fast. I was busy working at the photo studio and shooting freelancing assignments. I shot a beautiful wedding in New Jersey. I also took portraits for R&B singer Bryan Ellis for his new CD. We visited our friends from Paris in Conneticut, Julie and MacGregor, for their wedding engagement reception. At the end of September I am going to Merida, Mexico for a photoshoot w/ my friend and fellow photographer Andrew Lindy. It is for an amazing NY designer named Jenny Maag. My first big gig out of the country! Since I work at Milk Studios, one of the biggest photography studios in the world, I get to be part of some very high profile events and photoshoots. This also means I get the perks of my job during NYC fashion week. Fashion week is a week in early september when all the major fashion designers launch their new spring collections. During this week many of the biggest celebs/models are front row at the runways shows and VIP guests are at parties all week long. We threw a couple of these parties at our studios. We had a MTV VMA/Mark Ecko's Complex Magazine Party and the Another Magazine/Dazed and Confused Party with the Kills. We also had the Proenza Schoeler Fashion Show in the Milk Gallery. Needless to say, these star studded events and were a lot of indeed. Brea just started her 2nd year at the William Esper Acting Studios. Her new mini-series was just released this summer in France called Maitre du Zodiaque, on their biggest TV station TFI. She also landed the lead role in a feature film which starts filming in January. I am so proud of her. We have really grown together this past year in NYC. I am so happy we moved here when we did. I went to the former site of the World Trade Center on September 11 early in morning just as it turned midnight. It was quiet and I was reminded of the innocent lives lost and all the great heros who sacrificed their lives to save others. I walked around for a few hours and taking photos. It is amazing that it's been 5 years, yet there is still a huge hole in the ground from where the towers fell. Hurricane Katrina's 1 year anniversary just passed and I have still not been to visit New Orleans. I plan on making a trip there in the near future. I love that city and both Brea and I have family from there. My friend Drew Nix just moved up here to NYC. He is staying in Brooklyn with our good friend Jeremy Smith, who works with me at Milk. Drew is an amazing musician. He has all ready played at a couple of venues in NYC. I took him to see my friend Tarrah Reynolds play a show at the Baggot Inn last week. He was invited back to play on stage a few days after the show. I did the photo for his new album, which he just released this month. It is nice having friends from Texas up here in NY. Happy Easter! I hope your holiday was as relaxing and enjoyable as mine. Brea and I went to Long Island on Saturday and Sunday to celebrate Easter with my Aunt Debbie and Uncle John. It was nice to out of the big city for a few days. I only get to do that about once or twice a month now. Work has been good and steady for me. I just got a new promotion for my job at Milk Studios as a day manager. It will be a nice change for me since I have been there for 10 months now working as the Night Manager. Last month I donated my photo to a charity called Sunflower, created by Supermodel Helena Houdova, that supports disadvantged children. Milk Studios hosted the photo exhibit and silent auction. A collector bought my photo for $1,100.00! I took the photo of French Riot Police in Paris during the student protests of 2005. The funny thing is, riots broke out in Paris the same week of the auction...exactly one year after the phot was taken. I am also working on a new photo exhibit for my "CONTACTS" series at a major Gallery in NYC. I have a few interviews lined up for next week. My friends Vatsal, Drew and Melissa came down last month to visit us. We went to Central Park, Times Square and the usual tourist activies one must do on their journey to the Big Apple. Drew Nix, my friend from Austin who is a singer/songwriter, played his first NYC gig at the Rockwood Music Hall. We also saw a stand-up comedy show at the Improv and met up with actor/comedian Jimmy Martinez after the show. We walked down to a bar, Snitch, by my apartment, to hear some music and get drinks. Jimmy has a new TV show on the FUSE channel called Konduct and it's hilarious. The producer of Konduct, Miles Maker, is directing a couple of movies that I am doing photography for. I am also doing a photo story and website for the Federation of Black Cowboys. They are Black Cowboys that have a huge ranch in the city with over 30 members and 40 horses. I have been going out there to document the ranch, the kids they mentor and I even get to ride a few horses when I get a chance. These guys are really amazing and have such a rich history. Their website will be up and running in a couple of months. I can't wait for it to be finished so everyone can see how awesome these guys are. Brea and I will be in Austin from May 12-16 for, my sister-in-law, Brandi's wedding.We are looking forward to being back for a few days to see family and friends. Brea's new movie Ball and Chain is now out on DVD. It's about an arranged marraige and she plays the best friend of the lead actress. She also has a starring role in a play that opens next month in NYC.I am looking forward to the summer...I can't wait to go to the beach again. We are planning a trip to Puerto Rico sometime in August. Until then, best wishes!

It has now been exactly one whole year since Brea and I moved from Paris, France to NYC. Boy, time flies by so fast. When we arrived here we hit the ground running and haven't looked back since. We have had an amazing time so far and look forward to what the future holds in store for us. Last month Brea and I went back home to Texas for her sister Brandi's wedding. It was so nice to see all of our family and friends. The wedding ceremony was held in Lydia and Jim's beautiful backyard out in Dripping Springs, just outside of Austin, TX. Of course, I was the photographer for the day. Brandi and Dave looked so happy, it was great to be a part of their wedding, we wouldn't have missed it for the world. Luckily, the weekend we went home was also Mother's Day, so we got a chance to spend quality time with our moms! I went back to Temple, my hometown, for a few days just to relax with the family. Brea stayed in Austin with her family. Whenever we get a chance to go home to Texas we usually end up driving up and down I-35 like mad men splitting our time between Austin and Temple. The good thing is it's only an hour drive, so it's not that bad. I went to Waco to visit my relatives on Mother's Day. I got a chance to visit with my Uncle Ken, his family, my Aunt Margie and Unle Bob and my grandmother, which I don't get to do but a couple of times a year. This month has been very exciting for me. I got another promotion at my job. I am officially the new assistant Studio Manager at Milk and Formula Studios. This is great for me because it means I have a "normal" 9-5 job, instead of the crazy hours I was working as the night guy. I am doing more paperwork and some supervising, which is a pleasant change for me. This also means I have more one on one time with clients and photographers than before. When it comes to work, change is always good. I have been working day and night on creating the website and taking photos for the Federation of Black Cowboys. The are a group of African American Cowboys in Queens, NY. They have a 30 acre ranch, 34 members and over 40 horses. I have been spending time out on the ranch documenting and getting to know the members. This week I got to ride my friend Solo's horse, named Bobo. It is so much fun and I am actually perty good at it. So...finally the site is up! Check it out at www.federationofblackcowboysnyc.com. It is by no means complete and there are quite a lot of things left to fix on it, but at least you can get a sense of who and what the Federation is all about. My friend and partner for the website Alana Cundy, www.alanacundy.com, did most of the research and bios and some of the photos for the gallery. My friend Jimmy Martinez, a comedian and actor in NYC, just got his own TV show on Fuse TV! I have been hanging out and photographing him since I met him at a comedy show this year at the Improv. He lives up in Harlem on 125th St. and 5th ave. It's so rich in character and beautiful there and I try to go there at least a couple of times a week. The people are so warm and there is so much history in the community. Everyone knows Jimmy in his neighborhood. He's the type of guy you never forget after you meet him once, because he's so hilarious, has a really loud voice and he's a great guy. His cousin Miles Maker of Miles Maker Images and Talent, is a extremely talented Director and His cousin Hassan Bakr is the Executive Producer. We are all going to be working on Jimmy's show together, so maybe you will see us on the tube very soon doing sketch comedy and interviewing rock bands on tour. I now have my own photography studio space at their production company 5th Avenue Productions!Brea is flying out to Atlanta, GA next weekend to star in a play, The Arrangement. I am so proud of her. She is working so hard and it is starting to really pay off. She is studying at the William Esper as a full-time 2 year acting student as well as auditioning an acting all the time. Happy New Years and Happy Valentine's Day! It is an exciting time for me right now. Brea and I just got a studio apartment in the heart of New York City on 25th St. and Broadway. They call it the Flat Iron District. I live just a block away from Chelsea, so I walk to work everyday now. It takes me about 15-20 mins depending on what kind of mood I'm in that day. It's such a cool part of town because it's not really a residential neighborhood. Our place is the only apartment building on the block, all the rest are commercial buildings and offices. Needless to say, I have been doing quite a bit of walking, spending time exploring my new surroundings. I flew back to Texas the day after the NYC MTA Strike. Getting back home to Long Island from the city on the night of the strike was chaos. Penn Station was flooded with cops, people and baracades with lines up to an hour long if you didn't have a pre-paid metro ticket on you. Luckily I had a monthly pass on me so I hopped on the train within ten minutes or so. We had to wait for the cops to give us their approval after inspecting our passes one by one. The traffic at the airport the next day was filled with the normal holiday travelers, but nothing out of the ordinary, even with the strike. Texas was amazing, it felt great to be back home. Being away from home the past few years has made me truly appreciate where I came from. Austin, TX was better than ever. It seems to be growing so fast! Everytime I go back, there are new buildings, highways and clubs, but my friends and family always stay the same! I went out downtown to 6th Street and celebrated my buddy Drew's B-Day. Partying with my friends is one of my favorite pastimes. Austin really is a great city to go back to.On Dec 28, I took a road trip with my father from Texas to NYC in a 1994 U-Haul. The 14' truck guzzled 8 miles to the gallon, which put a nice little dent into our pocket books. But, in the end, it was well worth the time and money. We stopped in Memphis, Tennessey to sleep for the night after eating a hearty meal at the ever so famous Waffle House, an American road trip favorite! We walked around downtown Nashville for a couple of hours and then trucked it all the way to NYC. It was quite an experience to say the least which has been forever captured in a series that I am working on called Like Father Like Son. New Years Eve was great because I got to spend time with my wife, dad, aunt and uncle in Long Island. We ate at Estorils, one of our favorite Portuguese restraunts in Rockville Center. Then we all went back to the house to drink champagne, watch the ball drop on Dick Clark's TV spectacular, and ring in the New Year. It was pretty hard to watch though because Dick's recent stroke has impaired his speech and aged him quite noticeably. So, in the end it became the Mariah Carrey, Hillary Duff and Ryan Seacrest Show, which is not half bad.Brea is starring in a Sam Shepard play on Off Broadway called a Lie of the Mind. She has a new agent and just finished her French mini series called Zodiac II. We are still settling into our new place, putting on the finishing touches. Our apartment is within walking distance of Times Square and Chelsea. Our street is filled with antique stores and small shops and every Saturday and Sunday there is antique market across the street from our building in an empty parking lot. In a way it reminds me of life in Paris, living in the Marais. The energy and the way of life in the heart of the two cities are very similar. Our friend Emmanuel, an opera singer in Paris, was in town for the week and got to be the first to break in our new couch!I am shooting as much as I can in my spare time. I just finished a new photo shoot with a Ford model this week. I am really working on building up my client base as much as possible. I hope to start working full time as professional photographer sometime within the next year. My job at Milk Studios is still amazing. I am getting to work with some of the most talented and creative people in the business and getting paid for it! Living in the city has been such a blessing. No more taxis, trains and long commutes everyday to and from Long Island. I do miss it though, I have gone back on Sundays to spend time with my aunt and uncle, relax and watch the football playoffs. I spent my Thanksgiving in NY. We went to my Uncle John's parent's house in Long Island. Unfortunately, Brea had to work that day at her restaurant job, so we saved her a nice plate of turkey, stuffing and the works for when she got home! So my day was filled with turkey, football and beer. I went back to Texas last month for my Birthday and for Halloween. It was a nice getaway and much needed from my hectic schedule here in NY. I got to see my family and friends...some things never change, which in this case is a good thing! We went out in Austin on Halloween. Drew, Matt, Rick and Me went out dressed as the Simpsons. It was pretty funny...and I got to party with my little sis, which was cool. The comfort of home is very refreshing and can be a natural healer, especially when you haven't been home in 11 months like me! Today it was snowing in NY...the streets and houses were covered in white blankets of snow. Right now we have the fire going, the game on the tube and pizza to eat. I helped my uncle put up the Christmas lights yesterday. It was soooo cold, but we had a good time doing it. I got to watch UT beat up on Colorado in the championship game and now the Horns get to whoop up on USC, which I can't wait to watch next month. Last week I went to Beacon, NY, which is about two hours upstate. I was assisting on a photo shoot up there. It is artsy town set next to a beautiful river and mountains. I want to go back and take some more pictures in the spring time. I got a promotion at my job and I really like what I am doing. I am still working long hours at the job, sometimes 12-15 hour days...which is kinda crazy, but somehow fulfilling at the end of the day. At least on the weekends I get to relax a little bit and do my photo shoots. We rented a van and took a road trip to Pennsylvania last week to play paintball. About 6 of us from Milk Studios and our friend Navarro, from Katy Baker, played in the woods at a huge snow covered paintball field. I have never played before, but had a blast and I was actually a pretty good shot. Brea is working really hard too...and we are making decent money here. Everything we make we are saving for a new apartment in the city. Once we have our own place in the city our lives will be completely different. Right now we are commuting at least 3-4 hours a day back and forth to Long Island. Which hasn't been that bad...but it is taking a toll on us. It has truly been a blessing to be living with my aunt and uncle. They have opened up their home to us for the last 6 months and have been so helpful. The dogs Rocky and Scarlet are amazing little guys.I have a new series of photos I am working on...trying to get a gallery show in NYC. I am still shooting fashion stories and have been showing my new portfolio to clients and agents in hopes of getting some freelance photo gigs. All in all things are great here. Brea leaves for Paris again on Christmas day to film her French miniseries. We will both be home for Christmas in Texas. I will be driving a U-Haul from Texas to NY at the end of December in hopes to make it to NY for New Years Eve. I hear it's a beautiful drive and I hope to take some amazing photos along the way...I do love a good road trip. see you soon!

Hello! Many things have been going on in my life the past few months, so it's been kind of hectic for me. I am still working as the Night Manager at Milk Studios in NYC. It's been a great job for me, more than I could have imagined upon my arrival to the Big Apple... Here's just a brief history of Milk Studios, where I've been working the last three months. It's the biggest photography studio in the city. It's made up of Milk Studios(4 big photo studios on the 8th floor w/ roof access), Formula Studios(three smaller photo studios on the 2nd floor), Locations(loading dock on 1st floor w/ equipment rentals for location and outdoor photo shoots), Milk Gallery(1st floor contemporary art and photography), House Productions(a casting agency for commercials, videos, and tv/film) and Raven(a designer clothing label). It has international clients which have photo shoots there for major magazines like Vogue, Elle, Harpers Bazaar, Numero and a lot more. So it's a pretty cool place to be. Uma Thurman, Naomi Campbell, 50 Cent, Jay-Z, John Stewart, Conan and Regis and Kelly all shot there in the last few months. It is located in the Meat Packing District in NYC on 15th St. in b/w 9th and 10th Ave. Which means it's very close to Chelsea, a very cool and trendy area in NYC, lot's of artists, actors and musicians around this area. I usually walk to work from Penn Station on 34th and 8th Ave, so it's about a twenty minute walk for me (20 blocks), but it's so nice to see the city and take photos on the streets on my way to work. I usually work from 3pm to whenever the clients are done with the photo shoot, which is around 8pm. Then I break down the equipment and set everything up for all of the next days shoots. This takes hours, so I usually am finished with everything around 1 or 2am. Since I am the last and only one there at night, it has to look perfect in the morning for the clients...Think of it as a five star hotel, it has to be flawless. So, some days are short and others are really long, but it's well worth it and I love my job. I am a teaching assistant on Weds. mornings for the Studio Photography Technique class at the International School of Photography this semester. This is a cool gig b/c I get to use their equipment, studio, and darkroom in exchange for my assisting. So I get to help the professor with the class and be a student at the same time! Other than that, I am freelancing as much as possible on the side for modeling agencies, actors and clients in the city. Brea has been working a lot herself. She just got back from Switzerland where she is filming a French mini series called "Zodiac" which is a huge hit in France. She is flying back to Paris next week to film some more of her part. She also just starred in a short film with an up and coming director at the School of Visual Arts in NYC. Weekends are great b/c we get to spend quality time together and with my Aunt Debbie and Uncle John. We are about 45mins, by train, outside the city in Long Island. We are saving up to move closer to the city, probably to an apartment loft in Brooklyn. I took a bus to Washington DC on Sept 24 to document the war protest at the capital. There were supposedly 100,000 people at the rally. It was crazy, people had signs, costumes and a lot to say. I took some great photos there...it was well worth the 4 1/2 hour ride there and it only cost $20 by bus! I haven't been to Texas in almost a year now and I can't wait to come home for Christmas to see my family and friends. I get a little over a week off so I'll be home around Dec 22-30, before I embark on a crazy road trip back to NYC. That's right, I'm buying a one way ticket to TX and renting a U-Haul to bring back furniture and stuff for our new apt which we are getting around Dec 1. I hope all is well... and I send my prayers out to all of those that were hurt by the hurricanes. I have included a series of photos from New Orleans that I took a couple of years ago. Our move from Paris to New York was a success! We have been here since June 6 and we hit the ground running. Both Brea and I had interviews and jobs lined up before we got here. The opportunities in NYC are endless. Right now I am so busy juggling part-time photography jobs. I am assisting a well-known international fashion photographer, Stan Shaffer, which is an amazing opportunity for me. We are shooting for La Perla clothing for their ready to wear couture collection right now. I am interning at Milk and Formula studios... two big commercial/fashion photography studios with the same owners in NYC. There is a permanent postition open that I am currently training for now. I am also a TA, teaching assistant at ICP, International Center of Photography once a week. If you TA at ICP you get free access to their studio, darkroom and equipment which I have been taking full advantage of. It has only been two weeks and I couldn't be happier. My time in Paris and the education and training I received at my photo school Speos prepared me more than I could have ever imagined. My jobs don't pay much at the moment, but the experience is invaluable and I hope to get the full-time job at Milk after my internship is over this month. Brea's best friend in NYC hooked me up as a PA, production assistant, on MTV and Nike's Battleground...It's a new tv show on MTV that choses the top basketball players in NY to play the best players in Chicago in a 5 on 5 game to see which city is the best. I got to work with some great people and make some great connections. We are living with my Aunt Debbie and Uncle John in Long Island, NY...It is a 45 min train ride into the city, Manhattan, which is not that bad. I get to relax on the train and have time to catch up on things before getting to work in the city. We will be looking for an apartment in September once we save some money. Before we left Paris my best friends Matt, Vatsal and Melissa came to visit us for a couple of weeks... We went all over Paris and Matt, Vats and I took a train to Amsterdam for three days. We stayed at the Flying Pig hostel and had a blast walking the streets of Amsterdam and hanging out in the coffee shops. It is exactly what you would imagine it to be. It was my second time to go there and we all had a blast. I love the colors and energy of the city. The people are really laid back and seem to really enjoy life.My photo exhibition in Paris is still up at La Dolce Vita, an Italian restraunt...and my end of year photo expo on May 19 at my school Speos went great. I got a chance to work and study with some amazing people and photographers in Paris. It was sad to leave my friends behind in Paris, but I am counting my blessings and know my move to NYC is for the best. I hope all is well back home. Bon jourI have been so busy lately finishing my projects for my photography program at Speos. The director of my school asked if I would like to make my "Contacts" series a traveling exhibition. So, I have another photography show on May 19 at a Italian restraunt near my school, which will be the after party for the big end of school exhibition of our work. Brea's mom came and stayed with us for two weeks at the beginning of this month. We had a great time showing her around Paris. I have been looking for work as a photographer in Paris and NYC for the summer, but we just decided yesterday that we will be moving to NYC on June 5. I can't believe how fast this year has gone by. It has been an amazing experience. Brea and I are both ready to make the big move so we can start making some real money. Our lease on our apartment doesn't end until August and you have to give three months notice if you want to break your contract, but we found a loop hole in the French system. France protects the renters more than the owners, so if you are moving for a job or you are unemployed you just give a letter to the landlord one month in advance and you get your deposit back in full and are allowed by law to break your lease. This helps us out so much. Most landlords here like renting to Americans and international students because 1. they usually have lots of money and 2. they don't know the French laws so it's easier to make them pay extra rent. Luckily, I have a very smart wife who did a bit of research and found this out for us. Last night I worked for le Figaro taking photos for the Paris premier of I love Huckabees, which was a strangely bizarre yet enjoyable movie. Most of the movie premiers in Paris are at least 3-6months after their release in the States. So it's probably out on DVD in the states right now.

Paris, France

We just returned from a weekend of bliss in Cannes, France...We arrived the week before the Cannes film Festival and people were just arriving and getting everything prepared for the big week. We rented a car in Nice at the airport and drove into Cannes, it only takes about 30 minutes and it's a beautiful drive...the countryside is gorgeous. Our good friend Steve, who runs the Intercontinental Hotel in Austin, TX came to France to visit Brea and I. We all flew out together and had an amazing time and lived the good life. We stayed at the Carlton Hotel on the beach and took some day road trips through the French Riviera when we weren't lounging on the beach. We went to St Paul, Eze and Monaco. Eze was my favorite town...it has a medieval castle and church located on top of a mountain overlooking the Mediteranean Sea. It was a gorgeous view from the top. Needless to say, it was a much needed trip for us. Our schedules have been crazy lately. I finish my photography training at Speos on May 20 and then we move to NYC on June 5. I can't believe it's so close...I feel like my time in Paris has been a wonderful experience. I am ready to go to NY and put everything I've learned here to good use. I am finishing my new website this week and will be having another photography exhibition on May 19. I have a couple of things lined up in NY upon arrival. I will be assisting a couple of fashion photographers, working partime as a photo retoucher and freelancing for a fashion agency. My friends Matt, Vatsal and Melissa from Texas are coming to visit for a week on May 22. We go to Amsterdam on May 25 for two nights. I am definitely looking forward to seeing them and showing them around Paris. Right now Paris is warm during the days, but stills gets a little cold at night.
