Quito, Ecuador

We took an overnight bus from Guyaquail to Quito.... the last overnighter for a while, we hope.   Its good to be back in Quito, and its weird to think of this city now as compared to when we first got here... Its really nice here... comparativly speaking.    So much easier being back here now, then two months ago.... its crazy how much weve learned.we  splurged on a nice hotel.. it had cable and hot water... and we are just going to chill for a few days... rest up, buy a few more xmas presents... pack up and be off for the winter wonderland known as the North East.  ShudderWe did it.   Were so proud.  Well be home soon.Bryce and Kali... hugs and kisses

Guayaquil, Ecuador

we made it 27 hrs on a bus from lima to guayaquil -- the boarder crossing was uneventful.. thank god, though our bus took a right hand turn down a street and took out a bunch of power and phone lines.... some of the passangers were on the roof pushing them off the bus, while we backed away... we just sat and watched.   A guy came out of his house as we drove off, and the driver threw him some cash.... i love South America

Lima, Peru

We made it through our 22 hour bus ride -- although the first hour was spent in a taxi paid for by the bus company, and probably another hour was spent stopped at various police checkpoints - when in South America they may say <i>express bus or something to that effect but they dont actually mean it.&nbsp; What they really mean is: we<i>´ll get you there somehow some way.&nbsp; The actual bus ride was relatively uneventful - except for the random loud music throughout the trip -- 4:30am is NOT the time to check out the latest downloads on your cell phone.&nbsp; I almost got in a fight, too bad Bryce had the aisle seat -- I was not a happy camper.&nbsp; We are now in Lima, staying in Miraflores which resembles an america city - were next door to a starbucks.&nbsp; The hostel is good and I think we´re going to check out the James Bond movie at the mall tonight -- its hard to believe were still in Peru.Tomorrow afternoon we leave for Guayaquil, Ecuador -- one 24 hour step closer to home...

Arica, Chile

We rode for a solid 8 hours across a vast barren wasteland to arrive in Arica, Chile -- quite a beautiful town in the NW of Chile -- beautiful ocean views, dark sandy beaches -- a few days to relax until we head back up the coast to Quito.&nbsp;&nbsp; Its nice to be back at sea level. We are taking 20 hour bus tomorrow to Lima -- then the world.&nbsp; Almost time for Xmas... we can´t waitlots of love to everyone, Bryce and Kali

La Paz, Bolivia

We are now considered "survivors."&nbsp; Today was spent biking the <i>Death Road.&nbsp; Dont worry - its not as scary as it sounds.&nbsp; I mean yeah, the road was a mere 5m wide at some parts and the cliffs were deadly, but we got to ride under waterfalls and no one has gotten killed riding a bike down it -- not that we heard about anyway.&nbsp; The road used to be the only passage for cars and many many people died in accidents due to the narrow corners, high cliffs, among other natural mountain, jungle stuff.&nbsp; A new road was built two years ago and now the old road is mainly for bikers.&nbsp; So it was safe.&nbsp; The company gave us helmets, working bikes, knee/shin pads, elbow/arm pads, jackets, pants, goggles and gloves.&nbsp; So we were perfectly safe.&nbsp; No worries.&nbsp; It was an exciting ride, but went by way too fast.&nbsp; At the end we arrived at a hostel where a buffet lunch was waiting for us --&nbsp;along with a pool, showers w/shampoo and towels, and hammocks.&nbsp; It was great.We are off to Arica, Chile early tomorrow morning and then making our way north to begin the voyage home... ahhh home.See you all soon, miss you lots.

La Paz, Bolivia

Our bus almost fell into Lake Titicaca with all our stuff inside.&nbsp; Luckily, they made all the passengers get out of the bus and pay for a boat ride across this part of the road where there is no road.&nbsp; They decided it would be easier to put the buses on small barge-esque boats powered by two tiny little motors in order to get them across the choppy water, instead of building a bridge.&nbsp; Makes perfect sense...We made it safely across, as did our bus and backpacks, and landed safely in La Paz.Our hotel is in the middle of the witches market so that made for some fun on the first day in the city... llama fetuses were the highlight - dont knock em, theyre good luck!La Paz is great... the drivers are crazy and the road system is like something out of New England - except a little crazier - but its a great city, Bryce didnt even get crabby upon arrival!&nbsp; Shopping and wandering tomorrow...

copacabana, Bolivia

Today we experience Isla del Sol - Island of the Sun.&nbsp; We took a 2 hour boat ride out to the island where they dumped us on the shores without a guide and demanding that we be somewhere at 3:30.&nbsp; So we wandered...We hiked to the north of the island first -- along a beautiful beach, up some rocky trails, past some pigs and sheep, said hello to some donkey´s and llamas, and eventually saw the sacrifice table and the sacred rock.A man tried to be our guide but we ran away...We headed south and hiked up and down hills, made friends with alpacas and more donkeys, and huffed and puffed our way to the highest peak we could find to take some pictures.&nbsp; Supposedly theres a bunch of ruins on the island, and i guess we bought tickets to see them -- there are random fees all over the place for no reason -- but we pretty much just enjoyed the hike -- all ruins now seem miniscule and dull compared to Machu Picchu.&nbsp; The hike was great though -- gorgeous views, the water was so blue and the mountains in the distance stuck out amongst the clouds.&nbsp; The boat ride back was really cold and when we arrived back on the mainland, it was still really cold.&nbsp; We got a quick dinner and went to bed around 7:30ish.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; ...A great day.

We made it safely to Bolivia -- the bus ride and boarder crossing were worry free -- sans the 135usd we had to pay just to get here -- yes, that's 135usd each.&nbsp; But now we have nifty visas in our passports.&nbsp;&nbsp; We're still on Lake Titicaca and you can see its beautiful blue waters from our hotel.&nbsp;&nbsp; We're heading to Isla del&nbsp;sol tomorrow -- then La Paz -- then the world.&nbsp; hugs and kisses to all.miss you guys.kali and bryce
