Derby, Western Australia, Australia

Another work trip to Koolan, broken plane resulted in a 10 hour delay in Perth - not after the 4am start to get to the airport of course, when we finally got to Derby it was too late to fly the caravan over, so woohoo - a night in Derby. The Boab Inn, what an experience!
The whole thing made me defintieyl want to get here on a holiday, all the road signs are so exciting - the Gibb River Road, Winjana Gorge, the Prison Boab, Broome...
But it wasn't to be this time. Just a sneak peek and we were off to work again..

Koolan Island, Australia

Day two of my new job and I'm off to Koolan Island in the state's north.
This island is amazing, the flight in was like a scenic joyride, the camp (altho just dongas) is in the most amazing setting, with tropical resort views. very cool.
The weather is freaking HOT, and we have beeb out in it for 5 days, 12 hours a day. this is my introduction back to the workforce after a year off, welcome to the (un)real world.
Swearwords have hit an all-time high.
I've cracked out the Khakis.
And i've had heatstroke pretty much every day, and have had to sit under a tree on more than one occassion.

Crowdy Bay, Australia

This was just the best little stopover.
The campsites were nice, the walks were great, and the wildlife... abundant!
We saw snakes, Kookaburras, Glossy Black Cockatoos and loads of Kangaroos. One even woke us up with it's head in the tent sucking on our blanket, but be warned, don't pat the Roos, Simon found a HUGE tick on his arm a few hours later. And then one turned up in our car 2 weeks later, from where, who knows? Very gross!

Donnybrook, Australia

Well we make it.
We take the scenic route through the tall forests that I've really missed all year, and we start to think about the future, or, well, really, it's the now. What do we do now?!
It would be nice to live in the country, in the trees.
And then we are home, at Mum n Dad's.
The dogs greet us, then the parents, and sister. Everything is green and the sun is shining.
We catch up over tea and share photos, I cannot believe my Mum has kept track of our whole year!
We did our mail first - ouch. There are overdue notices :( but also a postcard from Shanti :) and some things we posted to ourselves. Mum has kept newspaper clippings from all year of things that I would have liked to see - how thoughtful is that??!
Now the unpacking, washing and organising begins. Yuck.
Simon has seen his old job advertised in the weekend paper.
And Mum has a few cut out for me too.
How harsh is reality going to be????
We are seriously poor, with no jobs, no car, no house... but a lot of great pictures and memories!!
