Ellison Bay, Wisconsin, United States

Gills Rock, Wisconsin, is not a formally incorporated village or town, it is the next stop on the highway past the village of Ellison Bay, located in the township of Liberty Grove, and less than a couple of miles down the 'snaky' portion of Hwy 42 that heads to Northport Pier and the ferry to Washington Island, which houses as many as 700 year-round residents in the middle of Lake Michigan. Perhaps 50-60 souls live in Gills Rock year-round, and a handful lived in a house at the top of a gradual rise that was known only to its four or five inhabitants as Hedgehog Hill. At the end of the long winter of 1998, Kjersti and her friends Lexis, Lacey and Janessa spent a brief part of the afternoon posing for pictures that now seem to celebrate being fifteen years old. Nick and Joey have bit parts in this drama, as do Chris and Amanda and Maggie and Grandma and Grandpa Nelson.
Willcox, Arizona, United States

Knowing Willcox was only 76 miles from Tucson, we left a bit late that Saturday in January. At first, it seemed like it might be a mistake, that the sun would set before we even arrived. But the late arrival was a blessing: the light throughout Chiricahua was incredible. Of course, it was a bit beyond my photographic skills to adjust exactly for a combination of dark foreground and bright sky, so few photos made it out of the soup (yes, we were shooting film), but those that did were often spookily mysterious...
Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Hanging out on the Dubai Air Show airfield with no agenda was one of the best UAE experiences...the international mix of people, distinctively Middle Eastern, but with Europeans and other countries present, unique aircraft from every place you can imagine...a Turkish helicopter, a MIG, the new Airbus, the older American planes, plus some aircraft that seemed more suitable to the Experimental Aircraft Assoc. show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
Chicago, Illinois, United States

TravelPod dates only go back to 1972, hence this mis-dated entry from 1968...

This is just one of several strong images I shot during the Convention. If I had known how to "push film," I would have been able to shoot a lot more, but as it was, I was using 400 ASA B/W Tri-X and most of the images came out a bit, uh, weak. Anyway, my camera was shaking a lot, honestly.
Chicago, Illinois, United States

This was a common scene on Thursday night at the Convention, apparently more peaceful in its way than the night prior (which I missed). Wednesday had been a night that was much more violent and filled with head-banging Chicago police, physical injuries, swinging nightclubs...
