Jinju, Korea Rep.

Took a bus from Busan to Jinju (1.5 hours) and eventually found a place not even a block from the bus station. Jinju is a fairly big city, but I think we definately came here on one of the more exciting weekends of the year. The Lantern Festival was said to have been voted the top festival by the Korean tourist industry for 3 years in a row, and it didn't disappoint. Beautiful Lantern sculptures lit up the Nam river for about 1 km between the two bridges in town. As well, a wall of lanterns, and other displays light up the main pathway alongside the river, which altogether made for a very nice walk. Once the sun goes down, it gets really crowded. There were some awesome fireworks that went on for about 10 minutes. Watched some Korean dances and instrumentals, and did a little shopping at the many shopping booths that are there. Good time, good festival! The next day, we checked out an old fortress that was one of the main battlefronts against the Japanese back in the day. Today its a nice walk around, and the temples inside are very nice, well worth the 1000W to get in.
