The Waitersmade fun of you. They threw straws and napkins at us and wouldn't give Troy a refill on his drink because he spilled his first one. Mr. Nish said he would feel right at home working as a waiter there.

Bye
Shari and Cori
Acadia National Park, Maine, United States

October 24

We left the hotel and had a long, long ride to Acadia National Park. We stopped off at the visitor's center and Ranger Donna told us about the Park.

Lunch was at Jordan Pond House. Mr. Nish and I (Skyler) thought the food was good. The pasta, salad and popovers were great. Rayden disagreed with us so we told him to get out. This restaurant is famous for their popovers. Mr. Nish had 3 of them and Mr. Washington had 4. They both were debating whether this place or Michie's Tavern in Charlottesville was better. Both of them agreed it was a tie.

After lunch we went to the tide pools. Ranges Donna and Mike helped us. We found many plants and animals. The most interesting were blood star, green crab, and nudibranch. We also caught periwinkle, dog winkle, and lots of barnacles and mussels. The rangers got sea stars, sea urchins, different nudibranches, and some sea weeds. I (Skyler) stepped in the ocean and had to dry my socks in the bus. Nobody liked it.

Continued ...
Plymouth, Massachusetts, United States

October 23, 2008

Good morning, good afternoon and good night.

We left Woburn, Massachusetts and had an extremely weird and long ride to Plymouth. It was weird because the boys were hitting each other but then again the boys are always pretty weird. It was a brisk morning. I (Courtney) wore five tops, two pants, boots, hat, and two pairs of gloves and I was still cold. Mr. Tanaka wore a t-shirt, shorts and rubber slippers and he complained he was too hot.

The Mayflower II was a replicate of the original Mayflower. Ships back then were measured by how many one ton barrels they could carry. This ship was very large for its time and could hold 180 barrels which is 180 tons.

Plimoth Plantations was three miles away. This town was spelt with the letter i because they did not want to get it confused with Plymouth, England. It was split into two sections: the Indian village and the settler's village. The Indian village had real native people working there. One woman was making turkey soup. I (Courtney) was getting hungry. They had many animal skins in there dwellings and clothes.

At the Settler's village, many people dressed in period clothes, were working. The houses were not that big and were dark inside. At one end of the complex there was a large building. It was used as church and meeting hall. On the second floor there were cannons in case the enemy was approaching. You could see the ocean from the second floor.

Continued ...
The scenery was really open, lots of space filled with trees changing colors.

When we got to Boston we met our guide Jim G. His last name could not be pronounced but we think he might be related to Kenny G. the musician. He took us to the Old South Church where they had the debate on taxes right before the Boston Tea Party. The woman speaker gave each of us a card to read out loud. Each card had the name of a person who was actually there and a short speech of what they may have said. We were divided into two groups: the Patriots (people against the tax) versus the Loyalists (people loyal to King George). After each speech, if you were for the speech you said Huzzah. If you were against the speech you yelled Fie.

We then made our way back to Faneuil Market for lunch. Jim G. showed us the site of the Boston Massacre, where 5 Patriots were gunned down in front of the Governor's house.

After lunch we went to the Boston Science Museum. I (Travis) liked the machine that made a ball.

Dinner was at Cheer's restaurant - site of the original pub, the Bull and Finch, which the TV series was based on. The pasta was excellent.
