Burlington, Colorado, United States

There's been a lot of driving over the last few days. I drove from Winnemucca, NV to Salt Lake City, UT (about 350 miles). Then it was off to Hot Sulphur Springs, CO (about 400 miles). Then today I went through the Rocky Mountain National Park and through Denver to Burlington, CO (about 300 miles). The Rocky Mountain National Park was great. There was still some snow at the top of the mountains. I almost hit some deer driving through the park. There were animals everywhere. There were also some great views from the top of the mountains. I have uploaded some pictures from the park. Tomorrow it is a long boring drive across the state of Kansas to my stop in Kansas City, MO.
Winnemucca, Nevada, United States

On Thursday I went through San Francisco. The city was beautiful. I did a lot of walking. I parked on the south end of the city and walked to San Francisco Bay and back. I stayed the night in Sacramento. On Friday, I drove through Lake Tahoe and on to Winnemucca, where I am now. On Saturday I am driving to Salt Lake City. I should be back home next Friday the 16th. Hopefully I'll find a few more places on the way back to take some good pictures. I've posted my pictures from San Francisco in the photo album.
Monterey, California, United States

Today was a drive up the coast of California via the Pacific Coast Highway (Hwy 1). This was the most beautiful stretch of highway I have ever seen. There was a picture waiting to be taken around every curve. Again, I took too many pictures to post on here, so I only put a few. Those of you stuck in Athens or Dalton may be a little jealous after seeing these pictures. This drive was absolutely amazing, and again it was sunny and around 70 degrees with a breeze coming in from the ocean. Tomorrow it is off to San Francisco with a stay in Sacramento.
Santa Barbara, California, United States

Today I went to the San Diego Zoo and I went through Hollywood. The zoo was great!! There were so many animals and the park was huge. I got tons of pictures, but it would take forever to post all of them. So I only put a few of them. I'm going to put all of my pictures on a CD and make copies of them if anybody wants them when I get home. I think I went through Los Angeles at a good day of the week and a good time of the day. There was relatively no traffic. I saw a special on the Travel Channel a few weeks ago about the best places to get a hot dog. There is a place in Hollyood called Pink's. It was rated the best hot dog place in the world by the Travel Channel. So I stopped in and it did not disappoint. Tomorrow it is a drive up the Pacific Coast Highway and around the Monterey Penninsula.
San Diego, California, United States

Today I left Las Vegas and headed to San Diego. I took a detour through Death Valley. It was a little warm, somewhere around 120 degrees in the lowest valley. My air conditioner definitely got a workout. I didn't realize how far out of the way Death Valley was, and how long it took to drive through there. This turned out to be close to a 500 mile drive today. But San Diego is great (sunny and around 70 degrees). I'm headed to the San Diego Zoo and Hollywood tomorrow.
Las Vegas, Nevada, United States

Las Vegas was great, just like the last time I was there. I got there a few hours before my check in time, so I played some blackjack in the casino. I told myself after I lost $100 I was finished gambling for the day. So I put down $100 and started playing. I played for about an hour and won $30. I headed to the monorail to get back to my hotel and check in. But the monorail was out of order so I headed back in the casino to kill some time. I won $70 more while waiting for the monorail to start working again. I didn't play anymore the rest of the day. I went back to the hotel and took a nap and went back out after dark to take some pictures.
Williams, Arizona, United States

The Grand Canyon was amazing!!! There were canyons in every direction as far as I could see. The great thing about it was that at every lookout point and around every corner there were different views. I did some hiking at the south rim which ended up being around 5 or 6 miles. It really wasn't as crowded as I thought it would be. When I got there around 9:00 am there was hardly anyone there. But it did get a little more crowded as the day went on. I absolutely loved this place. Tomorrow it is Las Vegas, and then California. I might not be able to update as often in California, but I'll try.

-Eric
Williams, Arizona, United States

Today I drove about 350 miles from Albuquerque, NM to Williams, AZ. I forgot that Arizona does not operate on daylight savings time, so it was actually 2:00 when I got here instead of 3:00 like I thought. But luckily they had my room ready anyways. I'm here in Williams for two nights. The town is beautiful. My hotel is on route 66, and the area looks like an area from the old west. Tomorrow I'm going to spend all day at the Grand Canyon. Hopefully I won't forget my sunscreen because it's going to be sunny and around 100 degrees. Then on Sunday it's off to Vegas, which is even hotter than here. I've posted pictures from my trip up Sandia Peak in Albuquerque. I rode a tram, which is the longest tramway in the world, to the top of the peak, which is just over 10,000 feet high. I have wireless internet here in my room for the next two nights, so I'll post the Grand Canyon pictures after I get back to the hotel tomorrow night.

--Eric
Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States

I went to Carlsbad Caverns on Day 5. This was the best thing I have seen so far. The caves were amazing. The bad part is that because it was a cave, and caves are dark, I didn't get many great pictures from there. I did get a few though.

I stayed the night in Roswell, NM. I saw my very first Sonic Drive-In that didn't have any drive-ins, only a drive-thru window and and inside area just like every other fast food restaurant. For the beginning of Day 6 (Thursday the 1st), I went to the International UFO Museum in Roswell. There was some pretty interesting stuff there, but nothing powerful enough for me to believe in UFOs.

Now I'm in Albuquerque, NM. There's a tramway here that goes to the top of a large mountain. I may take that to the top tonight and get some shots of the city from high above. I'm not sure yet if I'm going to do that. Tomorrow, I arrive in Williams, AZ, which is about 60 miles south of the Grand Canyon. I'll be staying there two nights so I can spend all day at the Grand Canyon on Saturday. Then it's off to Las Vegas on Sunday. I've posted pics from days 5 and 6 in the photo album. I'll update again soon.

--Eric
Pecos, Texas, United States

The whole day was a rainy, miserable day except for when I got to the Space Center in Houston. All the roads beside the interstate from Louisiana to Houston were flooded. Water was up to the top of roadsigns and billboards. But the sky cleared when I arrived at the Space Center (and then rained the rest of the way to San Antonio). The Space Center was great. I stayed there for about 3 hours. I took the tram tour that took guests to various buildings on the site. We went to the new mission control center, the astronaut training facility, and rocket park.

I visited the Alamo and Riverwalk in San Antonio. I stayed the night in Pecos, Texas, which is about 40 or 50 miles from the New Mexico border in west Texas. I learned that Pecos is the home of the world's first rodeo. Interesting stuff. Anyways, I'm off to Carlsbad Caverns, and I'm staying the night in Roswell, New Mexico. Hopefully I won't get abducted by aliens.
