Cairo, Egypt

Since I still had not bought any presents for my friends and family I went to Khan Al-Khalili to buy some things. In the evening Amr took me to the Jazz Up in the Hilton hotel, where they finally played good Salsa music and where I could improve my Salsa knowledge. Later on Alexandra, Yasemin, Alfredo, Roxana from Romania and Michele from Italy joined us in this place. The boys were happy, that they sold beer and performed the "Pharaonic dance". One after the other tried to dance Salsa, though the boys stuck more to the "Pharaonic" or freestyle version.
Bologna, Italy

Tonight Francesco, my flatmate, and Angela, a friend, set up a theatre play written by themselves. And afterwards we ate a big cake and drank sparkling wine for Francesco's birthday. Late at night I finally had to say goodbye to all my friends in Italy, because this was my last night there - I was supposed to leave the next morning...even if I didn't really want to!
Barcelona, Spain

It is incredible: I am in Barcelona. I was planning for a long time to go to this city, but always didn't go there but to see some friends in Italy or other countries. But since I got to know a Spanish (yes, I know, you're Catalan...I don't care...;-)) friend in Egypt, I decided to go and see her.
We were already having fun from the very beginning: at the arrival at the airport of Barcelona there were two sections, where you could pick up the lugagge, A and B. Since I saw nothing written on the screens, where to pick up the luggage, I chose to go to section B, followed by 5 other people from the same flight. When we arrived we got to know, that our luggage was at section A...so we had to go out and turn to the ther side of the airport to reach section A...sightseeing from the very beginning!
In the afternoon we saw half of the city walking a lot through the old city centre, the harbour, the cathedral...great city, like everyone told me!! And at the market they sold fresh mango juice, so we had one remembering the great time and the mango juice explosion in Cairo. In the evening we went out for a beer in a bar...and finally at 2 a.m. came home.
Barcelona, Spain

This morning I found out, that German internet pages for housewives are not really helpful, if you are looking for some recipe, that you can prepare in Spain without an oven - there was really nothing useful: either I could not get those things in Spain, or they had to be baked. So I just went to the supermarket to make up my mind...
In the afternoon we went to the royal palace and a monastery in the northern part of the city.
Barcelona, Spain

Since I was the only one having a free morning, I decided to prepare lunch. So the first task for me was to find the supermarkets (supermarkets for me are the greatest sights in a city...you can discover a lot in there!!) around and to get all the things I needed. Having managed that, the rest was fairly easy...
In the afternoon we went to the parc Montjuic (this time the cable car was open, and I already knew, that there was an elevator) and saw the city from above, the Olympic stadium and a museum (we didn't enter!!). After that we went to the English test for the Catalonian applicants for exchanges - only that we were on the other side and I could watch Spanish students cheating and copying (fortunately it's the same all over the world). In the evening we had dinner in a mexican restaurant with nice cocktails (they had real "Papa Coco" - memories of Egypt...).
Barcelona, Spain

After having relaxed in the morning from the stressful day before (at least for me), we went on another sightseeing trip in the afternoon. First we went to Parc Güell, where there are lots of things from Gaudi. After lunch we went on to the Hospital de Sant Pau (I wish, we had a hospital like that instead of our grey barracs) and the Sagrada Familia. And again there was this dispute, that I should climb the stairs up to the top of one of the towers. The thought of climbing up hundreds of stairs didn't make me happy at all - but again I was really lucky: although they had announced, that there was an elevator, they were about to close, so that there was not a single step for me to climb!!! When Mariona stopped being angry at them (did I mention, that every time she got angry it made me laugh...people are so expressive in this country...), she decided to show me more houses...so we went around the whole city to see many many houses. Before entering the last one, we fortunately first went to have a coffee - so when we were ready to enter at 7:35 p.m. we saw, that they had closed at 7:30 p.m. (another time no stairs - knowing that the last floor was supposed to be seen). So instead we had a relaxing evening at home (yes, I climbed the stairs until the first floor!!!).
Portaventura, Spain

Today we went to a theme park. I haven't been to a place like this since about 10 years, so it was quite an adventure for me. First we went with a slower rollercoaster (which me already scared somehow), then we went to a place, where we were pulled up to I don't know how many meters (it seemed like kilometers to me) and then suddenly they'd let us fall down. I don't know, how I managed to leave that thing on my own feet. But the "worst" was still to come: a rollercoaster with 8 loops. I entered that rollercoaster and from then on, I don't really know what happened to me or whether it was cold or hot...feeling quite comfortable during the first loop, that changed, when that car started to turn in any direction while going into the loops. I was happy, when that car stopped and we arrived the exit safely...
