Borden, Prince Edward Island, Canada

As always with the last day of a trip there is that bittersweet feeling of being sad it is time to leave but that thrill of going home. I was up early as usual on Monday morning and let Katie sleep for a bit more.
I took Bosco out for his morning ocean trip and got him all tired out for the time being. It was another perfect morning with the sun shining and the waves crashing in the distance.

We came back in and I started to tidy up and pack some things while watching the news to see what we missed out on. I put the coffee on and did a little writing on the laptop. After awhile it was time to go wake Katie up.

Once we were up I made a big pan of scrambled eggs and toast. We were trying to use up most of what we brought so it was less to pack. It was a filling meal thats for sure. Katie read some paper and I watch TV. We took Bosco out again and chucked the ball out in the ocean some more because we loved making him go in the waves! If only we could of got a good pic of him getting smacked with a big wave.

We then came in and packed up the place and making it as tidy as we could. I am sure we did not have to but it seemed to be the right thing to do.

Once the car was packed and we double checked the place, we were off. So sad to leave it behind, poor Bosco did not want to leave.

We stopped in the welcome village before the bridge to find out how far out of our way it was to the Bay of Fundy. It was a little more than we wanted to we decided it was home time. This was around noon. Then we finally found out what the toll was to leave the Island. 40 bucks! yep that was a little much at this point in the trip but what are you going to do? At least they took debit.

The drive home was pretty easy and good. Katie napped on and off and I just cranked out the tunes and tried out the cruise control for the first time. That was fun.

We made really good time and stopped in Tturo for a bite to eat and to gas up. From there were in the drive way around 4pm and happy to be home.

818 km's later we had an amazing road trip and vacation. We are excited to go on another trip soon and we will for sure go back to PEI next year.

Next up , maybe Boston to see Kevin and Angela???
Borden, Prince Edward Island, Canada

Day two began earlier than expected thanks to the whole malfunctioning clock! So I was up just past 8am and took Bosco out to run free. I chucked the tennis ball off the cliff and he was able to go down and get the ball since the tide was out. The view was amazing at that time of the day and the wind was making the waves sound just right.

Once Katie was up, we made some breakfast. Eggs on a bagel and tea and coffee. I got some bonus points since I made the coffee for like the first time ever. The tea was a little tricky all weekend since the one thing the cottage was lacking was a kettle.

I experimented with the coffee maker and a pot of boiling water but neither really lived up to what I was used to.

After stuffing our belly's and cleaning up a little we got ready and took Bosco for a walk around the area. Not a lot to see except other cottages but the ocean breeze was refreshing. We came back to the cottage and took Bosco down to the water. By this time the tide was coming in and the waves were really getting big. So what do we do, chuck the ball out into the water anyways.

It was certainly a highlight of our trip to watch Bosco wade his way over and under waves to get the ball. They were crashing into his face and lifting him up. He did not really like it all that much but a lab's gotta do what a lab's gotta do.

Once Bosco was dried off and ready for some napping, Katie nad I got in the car and headed for Charlottetown. The plan was to see the sights and then find somewhere that served a Thanksgiving feast.

It was about a 40 minute drive to the city and once we got there we parked and started walking around. We got a map and headed down to the water. It was a warm and sunny day and we were over dressed of course. We checked out the waterfront and a few other sites before deciding it was time to sit. Maybe it was the fact that it was a holiday and a Sunday but the place was overly dead. Not alot of people around or stores open.

So we started checking out places to eat. We already knew of one but wanted to see others. We found a pub called the Gahan Brewery and they were serving a big dinner but it was not open til 4pm. Keep in mind it was just about 2pm at this point and we had tired feet and were getting hungry!

So we went back to the first place to see what was going on there. They were open but of course they did not have their dinner til 5pm. We wanted to be back to the cottage before dark to have a fire. So we went in and had some drinks and chatted for a while. The drinks were super cheap too. Katie had two ceasars and I had two pints and the total came to just over 13 bucks.

So from here we walked back to the other place for 4pm and we the only ones there but did not care because we were starving for some bird! The meal was excellent, all the fixins and Katie still talks about the mashed tators. We left there around 5:45 and we back in time to make up a fire.

Since Katie had never seen me do it before she kind of doubted my fire making skills. I had it up and blazing in about two minutes so now I guess she knows I have what it takes haha.

We only stayed out there for maybe 30 minutes and had a few drinks since the wind was kicking up and it was blowing the smoke in our faces. We went inside and had a few more drinks and snacks and played some cards and then had a little slice of home life and watched Amazing Race on the TV.

It was not too long after this that we called it a day and fell asleep to crashing waves.
Borden, Prince Edward Island, Canada

Destination PEI day 1

I finished work at 9am and was excited to get home and get packing for the big road trip. The plan was to wake up Katie when I got home and we would get packed and be out the door by 11. By the time I was home and took care of feeding Bosco, Katie was already up and waking up her brain for the day ahead.
I took care of packing the car with everything we needed and she took care of packing up her clothes. Everything was good to go by 10:55 and we were on the road just as the clock struck 11am. I programmed the trip monitor in the car and we started at 0.0 KM. P.E.I. Here we come!

Once we went over the bridge into Dartmouth and wizzed past the airport, we were all in uncharted waters. The drive was good and fairly easy. With a few stops for food and one missed turn off we made really good time to Confederation Bridge. Highlights along the way were all the good songs we listened too on the new toy for the car, a perfect sub for Katie and a Tim Hortons tea for me. We tried to take as many pictures of the sites as we drove but really they do not do it justice. The fall colours were out in full force and I kind of wish it was easier just to stop every time you see a pic you want to take.

For me it was cool to cross into New Brunswick and to be in another province in Canada. I could now say I finally reached four! Good news, later on I reached five, half way there now.

Bosco was the perfect car companion, he just chilled in the back seat and did a lot of window watching. He loves being in the car and is very well behaved which makes taking him places that much easier.

We pulled onto the bridge around 2pm and it was quite the site. I have never seen a bridge so long that you cannot see the other side. The sad part is the walls on each side are just high enough that you can't see too much or take pictures. We tried! I think it must have been a 15 or 20 minute drive just to cross the bride and then we were there!

Once you pull into PEI there is this welcome village of every shop and fast food chain you can think of. It feels like you are driving through some amusement park without the rides. We hit the highway from here and in about 15 minutes we were on a gravel road pulling up to the cottages. You will see in the pictures that the view is pretty amazing and when you first pull up it is all you can see, water everywhere.

We met the folks at Maggie's cottages and we got all set up with our water front vacation. The two bedroom cottage is very nice, wood paneling as far as the eye can see. Everything you would want in a cottage that is for sure. Check out the pictures for a tour. It is so cool to just walk out the back door and all you see is Ocean.

We took Bosco down to the beach, while the tide was out and played with him for a bit. He was going crazy running back and forth, kicking up sand everywhere. Needless to say he was one happy dog. We spent a good 30 minutes down there while our place was getting all set up. We moved in and got settled and before crashing and going into full relax mode we thought it was best to go and get some groceries. Who knew that would be so hard.

We drove and drove and drove trying to find somewhere that had food. We ended up in Summerside 45 minutes later and finally found a Price Chopper. We were starting to think this province did not have groceries. I can't really put into words how frustrating this little trip was getting! So we picked up some food for dinner and breakfast and we were off.

Finally back and ready to kick off the shoes and relax. I had not slept all day and was shocked at how well I was holding up. We bbq'd some chicken, roasted some potatoes and had a salad for dinner. Turned out very good considering we did not have all the usual things to cook dinner with. It felt good to get a home cooked meal in the tummy. Oh and the beer and wine went down good too.

Once that was over I sat on the couch and put on the hockey game. I think I fell asleep in about 5 minutes because I do not remember too much of the game. I woke up maybe a few hours later, the dishes were done, Katie was doing a crossword and Bosco was sleeping on my feet. Cottage cozy eh!

I made some tea and it was not long before we called it a day. Everyone was tired but very happy and relaxed in PEI.

Here is a side story that I need to mention because it is one of Katie's highlights. There was a clock radio in one of the bedrooms so I moved it to the room we were in and set the clock. I asked what time it was and Katie said 10:41pm. So I set it and never thought about it again. I got into bed and fell asleep in about 2 seconds. It was so warm and the sounds of the waves really knock you out. So the next morning I wake up and focus on the clock and start freaking out. It was 10:41am and we were still in bed and the day was wasting away. I woke up Katie and she did not care and seemed un phased. The thing was it did not feel that late and I should of trusted my feelings. I went downstairs and looked at my watch and sure enough it was 7:30am. Katie was like I know it is not 10:41AM, the clock never moved and she knew that already. It may not come across as that funny but I know Katie has been laughing about it all weekend.
Katie headed to work and I headed off to drop off the rental car. After finally getting a cab I was off to the airport! Pretty smooth trip again, left and arrived on time and was home to see Bosco and all my stuff! All the fun of Halifax was very tiring so I took the rest of the day easy and decided to take care of real life stuff the next day. Thank you Katie for letting me stay! all the treats! making it one of the best weekends it could be. Thank you Halifax for the amazing weather and a pre thank you to the next hurricane that will blow away Lost Creek Golf Course.

until next time travelers
Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada

Day 4:
Ah a lazy Sunday, perfect for relaxing and some site seeing. After sleeping in we got our stuff together to make a trip out to Peggy's Cove. With our directions, cold play and camera we hopped in the car and started the voyage. First stop of course was some brunch to fill the tank! We went to a place down the street from Katie's called The Ardmore Tea Room and it was a nice little diner. I was not feeling that hungry after eating way to many fries the night before. I managed to eat a cheesy omelette and Katie enjoyed a half size eggs benny. Now that we had full bellys we got in the car and hit the highway! Once onto highway 333 it became very bendy and fun for driving. About 30 minutes later we arrived at Peggy's Cove. After finding a place to park we walked through the town up to the Lighthouse and rocks. I had no idea that this was one of the most famous lighthouses in Canada, no wonder it had a post office right inside. We sat on the rocks and watched the ocean for awhile taking in the ocean air. Of course the heat finally got to us and we headed back to the car. A nice Air conditioned drive home was just what we needed. When we got back to Katie's, I watched some TV while KAtie had a nap. The plan was to then go to the early show of Batman and get some dinner after. We did something we don't get to do , we drove to the movies and that was fun. Found a great parking spot right in front of the theatre! We both liked the movie and it was great being in a cool room for a few hours. Funny thing is when we left it was all of a sudden cold outside! So we hurried into Your Father's Moustache Pub for a late dinner. They had right on the menu, Halifax's best wings so of course I had to try them. I will end the suspense right now, they were not award winning. They were good but not what you would want to go to war with thats for sure! We sat and watched Spring Garden Road for awhile and made the trip home. On the way we topped up the car (99.9) and headed back to HQ. We relaxed and watched some news and went to sleep. The weekend is over....say it ain't so!!

        Halifax, Ontario, Canada

DAy 3:
Day 3 had all the makings of being the longest but the most fun as well. After a fairly early start and a home cooked breakfast (including some crazy bacon) we headed out to pick up a rental car. We had a tee time booked at Lost Creek golf course just outside of the city so of course we had to arrive in style. A nice white Impalla, that is how we rolled! A quick stop at the store for some gatorade and we were off. It was a really easy drive and I have to say it is enjoyable driving when you are not in Toronto. It was also nice to have some AC since it was already the hottest day of the year for Nova Scotia, it was roasting in the sun. We got to the course on time, got our clubs, balls, tee's and the best part, a golf cart!! This was exciting but mostly to Katie since it is one of the few things she can drive, so she did most of the cruising around the course. It was a very scenic and woodsy course and we were having a lot of fun. I chipped one in, Katie was regaining her LPGA stroke and everything was going great. Then......it went to bad pretty fast. We took a break half way through and let a foursome pass us. Then the foursome behind them caught up to us very fast and of course they were not ones to be patient. They rolled balls up behind us and eventually had a Marshall come out to tell us that we were going to have to go faster or risk being kicked out! Kicked out?? Did we just not pay a lot of money to do this? Of course we were not even going that slow. So from this point on it was not the balmy weather that we had to cool off from. It made the last 3 holes about as unenjoyable as golf can be. So if you are ever in Halifax and want to go golfing, please do not go to Lost Creek.
A cool drive home was just what we needed. A tour through the little town of Waverly for some pizza and then home to rest up for the evening. What was the plan? Only Katie knew because it was a birthday surprise. I watched some TV and Katie napped for the rest of the afternoon. After getting ready for a night out, we grabbed a cab and headed for the waterfront. This is where it became clear what the surprise was. A boat cruise around the harbour with 40 of our closest friends. That was very cool, seeing the city from the water as it went from day to night. We had a drink, enjoyed the full collection of Dave Matthews and had a great old time. Katie got a little "pipsy" (her word) so she did not try to help in raising the sails. After docking we were very hungry and got some fries to go and sat by the water watching the romantic Dartmouth Ferry station. Another ending to another fun filled day in the Fax. Remember, Lost Creek is bad........
Halifax, Ontario, Canada

Day 2:
Today was a free day mostly for me because Katie was working. Since I had already done some resume work and job applying the day before, I decided to just go all out vacation and went into tourist mode. After getting up and a very late 11am I got my stuff together, took care of a few errands (stocking fridge with beer) I headed out into the city with my camera. I walked down to the water and checked out the boardwalk, very busy down there, taking pictures of the casino and the harbour. After sweating up an appetite (and I mean sweat, it was 32 Celsius) I walked to the main drag and grabbed a snack and a book and finally got to enjoy the Public Gardens. Some of you who have read previous logs know what I said about the Gardens before. Despite all the rules you have to follow it really is a nice place. I read for awhile, trying to ignore out of control kids who feel the need to chase pigeons and ducks. With it getting close to 5pm, I made my way down to Kings to meet Katie. Her boss came out to meet me even though I understand she did not have to come out that way. After a nice walk home Katie had a small nap before we hit the town for some Friday night festivities. The back story on dinner is that I was getting my winnings from a bet Katie and I had on who would do better in Survivor. So I cashed in with style choosing one of the best steak places in town. We went to Ryan Duffy's STeak and Seafood place and it was very nice. They roll the meat to your table so you can pick a size (I went with 14.4 ounces) and they make the Caesar salad right in front of you. Dinner was so good and it would of been better if the staff had followed through with a request from Katie that they bring me a piece of Birthday cake out, who knows what happened but there was no cake in my belly!
From here we hit the casino and that was fun, we were tired but it did not stop us from having a good ride of luck on the slots. Katie really got into it, referring to one slot machine as her buddy, due to its amount of pay outs. Once we ran out, it certainly was time to sleep. We grabbed a cab and headed home.
Halifax, Ontario, Canada

Day 1:

After checking Bosco into the hotel down the street (vet) I packed up my stuff, double checked everything and left for the airport. I tried a new approach this time to try and save money due to the pricey cab rides. I hit the Airport express bus at Kipling Station and it was a very easy 30 minute trip. Checked in at the Canjet gate and I was off! The plane ride was pretty uneventful (what you want in a plane ride). There was this guy next to me that I will call Mr. Fidget and his cat who I will call Crying Pain in the Ass, who kept me awake. After landing about 30 minutes late, the first stress of the trip occurred. My bag did not come down the shoot and everyone was leaving. Luckily after they called to double check it was there. A chatty cab ride to downtown Halifax followed and I think I learned about as much about a person as you can in 25 minutes. Once I arrived at Quinpool place I finally got to see Katie! She was tired after a day of work but very excited that I was there. The first night was a nice and relaxing time, catching up on things, eating some dinner and of course GAME 7. Sadly it did not turn out the way I wanted it but I had to put things in perspective, I was on vacation, with my girlfriend and there was no time to be sad and dwell on the Piston's shortcomings. A late end to the day but it was only the beginning of a fun packed weekend.
Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada

Day 4 (April 17th):
Today was a bittersweet day due to the fact that our time was coming to an end in Halifax. I wanted to stay longer but I also wanted to get home and see if Bosco had been a good boy. The day started slow, sleeping in and packing up some of our things. We went downstairs for a big brunch in the pub. Katie had the biggest serving of Lobster cakes I have ever seen. It was like they thought she was a wrestler from the WWF or something. After reading the paper and stuffing ourselves to the point of no return, we headed back upstairs to pack up the room. With a bag full of free hotel product all packed up, suitcases zipped and coats on, we headed downstairs to check out. Our adventure was not over yet by any means though. The hotel kept our bags for us and we were off to see more apartments and enjoy some more time in sunny Halifax.
We checked out a few more places and then found our way over the Point Pleasant Park. It was really nice, out on the point and a lot of people with their dogs were walking around. Katie was sad at how the hurricane had clear cut the whole place making trees look like half of what they used to be. We sat here for a while watching the water and people and oddly enough a bunch of military in their gear walking the grounds. I have no idea why they were there but it was certainly odd.
From here we walked back to the downtown area and had many hours still to kill before our flight so we went to Gatsby's and had some drinks while Katie filled out an application for a place. Gatsby's should of been called Gossips with how their wait staff talked behind the bar, it was very entertaining. From here we went back to the hotel and grabbed our stuff, got in a cab and were off to the airport.
Not that much excitement here, you have all flown so I don't need to go into detail. We were very tired and glad to be heading back to Toronto. The only other funny story was the wide male stewardess who was like a bouncer. He looked mean and his shoulders were wider than the aisle. After two hours of IPODDing we were home!

it was a very nice weekend and Halifax is a city that is worth checking out. The people are so nice and the air is so fresh. Other than the NO PETS OR VISITING PETS and the jail park, I really liked it.
Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada

Day 3 (April 16th)

Saturday started at a decent time thanks to Katie's excellent planning and booking of apartment views. We made our way to the first place which was on Quinpool and close to many things that a prospective tenant may like such as a Grocery store and Shoppers. We checked out two places here and they were both very nice. Again we experienced the no pets thing and the place had a very nice little yard area that you can actually get trapped in over night. After seeing these apartments we went across the street for some much needed food. I had this monster sized skillet and we ended up getting free orange juice because nobody noticed us newly weds sitting at our booth (the booths all had names). We read the paper and hung out for a while before the next appointment.
After seeing a few more places in including a nice old one over a fancy resto we were in need of rest and more rest. Heading back to the hotel we grabbed some drinks and hit the room. I had a very long nap and Katie relaxed with a bath. She will tell you it was due to me snoring but do you believe her?
This was the night that we were going to do our own thing. Katie was having a dinner out with her new boss and that gave me a few hours to do whatever I wanted. So I decided that was my chance to hit the historic Keith's Brewery. Before that we walked around another part of the city and saw the Navy ships, the Casino and more of the Pier. I saw where most likely my mother landed in Canada. Funny that right next to it , now stands a Rum Cake shop! After sitting by the water for a while, we split up and I was off to see Alexander!
I was a little nervous once inside because it was the last tour of the day and for about ten minutes I was the only one signed up. Luckily 7 more people joined and off we were! It was quite the little production with actors and videos and of course a lot of tasting! I was a little tipsy leaving there so I went back to the pub at the hotel for a meal and more Keith's. After that I went up to the room and vegged waiting for Katie to get in. She brought me home some left over desserts and we watched some SNL before falling asleep. In case you were wondering and I know you are, Katie checked her phone for messages quite often! She is becoming a full blown cell phone person.
