San Jose, Costa Rica, Costa Rica

The Central Highlands. Mild climate, stunning drives along roads that wind up the mountainsides. We spent a week in this area exploring volcanos, plantations, National parks and Cloud forests and the Caribbean side. The traffic was nerve racking in the cities, dog-eat-dog driving. Pedestrians do not have the right of way, I was almost nailed by a speeding taxi two days before Christmas, my Husband saved my life, he yanked me out of path of death, use extreme caution. And then there's the horrendous air pollution from automobile emmissions! San Jose was worth a day visit, we hired a taxi to get in and out of the core. Downtown is easily explored on foot. A must see the Museo del Oro Precolombino. We picked up a few Indigenous crafts at Mercado Central, lots to see, there is a 13% sales tax.
Sarchi, is the main town for sourcing artesanias, here the local artisans have coop markets with the best prices.
We were glad to leave the Central Highlands mainly because of the traffic stress. Our next Zones would be the Central Pacific, Nicoya and Guanacaste and the Northern Zone. Then finally exploring the Southern Zone at the end of our trip where we laid back on the beach.
