Devils Tower, Wyoming, United States

This morning we left the campsite before any of the kids woke up. We drove until we got to Devils Tower! It was a huge rock jutting up into the sky caused by a volcanoe that was around it long ago. After the lava solidified inside the volcanoe, the actual volcanoe itself eroded away and left the hardened magma there. It really was a great view.After listening to a brief story about the history of Devils Tower, we walked up to the bottom of it and climbed some of the rocks that were around. There was also a path that went around it so we walked that too. While walking we took pictures and enjoyed the great view all around us. We even saw people climbing the actual rock! Eventually we got back in Rosie and drove until around 3am when we finally arrived at our destination: Yellowstone.

We drove to Crazy Horse after Mount Rushmore. It was an insane $27 fee to get in but we paid it and parked. When we looked up at the carving all we saw was the face of Crazy Horse so we were a little confused. We wanted to get next to the carving like we did Mount Rushmore. But the worker said it was another four dollars per person to take a shuttle bus to get close! We were really dissapointed because we paid the twenty seven dollars to see Crazy Horse and then they were charging extra money on top of that!? So we asked for a refund. However, there was a nice museum that we could look through and apparently that was what the twenty seven dollars was for. But if we'd known that we wouldn't have paid that much to look through a museum. The main reason we came was to see Crazy Horse. We didn't even know it wasn't nearly finished. While Dad negotiated with the manager we snuck a look around the museum. Don't get me wrong, the museum was great and very interesting. But it wasn't in our budget to spend a bunch of money on things we weren't expecting. When we left, we drove until we found a campsite. The kids were already asleep by then and didn't even know we had stopped.

We just picked up Uncle Tom at The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! When he got off his plane he took a subway there and had a good time looking around. But when we got there the building was closing so we got out and just rested for a little while. Johnny Cash's tour bus was outside too so that was cool! Since it was getting late, we all decided it'd be best to find a campsite tonight, go to Cedar Point tomorrow and then drive from there. Eventually we left because a wedding was starting and the last thing those people needed in their wedding picture was Rosie :-PThen we went to McDonalds because we basically didn't eat anything all day. The GPS wasn't a lot of help because it got us lost but we got there. Mama was generous enough to give us all $10 each in McDonalds cards! So we got things off the dollar menu to make the cards last. Then we found a campsite, booked it, and attempted to drive there. But once again the GPS wasn't much help because it led us to this POSTED fence... haha so we went back into town and asked for directions. We finally got to Huron River Valley Campgrounds and set up old Rosie. We started a fire and Uncle Tom played some songs on the guitar. It was great to just hang out and not be on the road. Then we all picked out our spots to sleep and crashed.

We left the Badlands and drove for a little while until we came to a city called Wall. Apparently there was a store called Wall Drug way back and they offered free ice water to people traveling to California on carraiges so they would come inside to get the free water but also end up buying things. We were all hungry so we decided to stop there and see what it was like. Well it was a big tourist place! I don't really know what the point of it was other than for people to buy stuff. We looked around, bought some souvenirs, and took a lot of pictures. It was actually really expensive and very touristy. But we still had a good time. Eventually we all had something to eat, got back in the RV and kept driving.

While driving up the steep hills toward Mount Rushmore, we kind of got stuck... it wasn't major but Rosie was getting really hot and eventually stalled. And Mount Rushmore was right next to us! We let her cool down and then took off again and made it! Mount Rushmore was great! It was awesome to finally see it with your own eyes instead of a picture. We went through the walkway with all the 50 state flags and saw George, Tom, Teddy, and Abe looking right down at us. In the giftshop was a guy who had actually worked on the carving and wrote a book about it. Then we got ice cream and got back in Rosie to head to Crazy Horse.

Today we got to Mitchell, South Dakota where we saw the Corn Palace :-P It was a big building not really made out of corn but it had corn on the outside which they change every year. Inside they sold popcorn and had a little gift shop. It was corny :-P

The Badlands were awesome! Every direction you looked there was an amazing view and it seemed like it just kept on going. When we got into Badlands National Park, we got out and climbed some of the cliffs. From far away they look like solid rock but while we were climbing we saw that it was just a lot of small pebbles! We took a lot of great pictures and enjoyed the views. Then we got back into the RV to go to Mount Rushmore!

We basically drove all day through Wisconsin and into Minnesota. We stopped in a little town called Lonesboro where people waved at us as we passed. We then went to a waterfall where we hiked a little hill and rested. It was relaxing and a relief to not be in the car.After the waterfalls, we drove to our next campground. But unfortunately it was miles and miles away so we had to go through a bunch of corn fields to get there. Finally when we got there we bought some food (beans, milk, and chips) but then found out the campsite didn't have any showers! The lady told us there was a creek nearby though :-P But it was really cold so we didn't even try. Uncle Tom made us an awesome dinner: hotdogs, beans, and macaroni and cheese (Easy Mac). Then we played a game of kickball which was fun! Eventually we went to bed because we had a big day ahead of us.

When we woke up this morning we were close to Chicago, Illinois. Dad and Uncle Tom pulled into a rest area to sleep lastnight. When we were all about to get out and go inside a lady knocked on our window and asked if they could take a picture of Rosie! We said of course and started talking to them. Apparently they were fashion designers who were in a bicycle gang called "The Deadly Night Shades". They were driving to Vancouver, Canada! They were really cool and we let them spray paint their logo on the back of Rosie. Then we went inside to brush our teeth, go to the bathroom, buy drinks, etc when we met Judy! Haha she was really funny because she must have been really tired or something :-P When Dad went in the store earlier to buy some medicine, she saw that his name was Jory on his credit card and said she'd never forget that name. So when we all came in later Dad asked her what his name was. She said "Ohh you were in here lastnight!" (But he was only in there an hour ago :-P) She thought about it for awhile and then said "Roxy?" Haha she was something else so we got a picture with her.

Today was a big driving day. We got up early and drove and drove and drove until we got to Blue Earth, Minnesota. There, we saw a huge statue of the Jolly Green Giant! Since we had an 8 hour drive ahead, we got back on the road and finally made it to Mitchell, South Dakota where we saw the Corn Palace :-PWhile driving through South Dakota, we saw a big statue of a man walking a dinosaur! It was neat so we jumped the fence and went to see it. It was getting dark but was still fun! Eventually we made it to the Badlands. It was so cool at night because it looked like we were on Mars or something! We found a campsite in Interior which was a nice type of ranch and most importantly had warm showers :] We wish we could've stayed longer because they had a lot of cool things to do there like horseback riding through the Badlands. But we had leave the next morning to get to Mount Rushmore!
