Trip to New York24th and 25th Jan 2004 - Danbury, CT, USA Finally two days off in a row but would they so quickly?!? No way, they did not I made the most out of them. I appreciated SO MUCH to travel around, see some other than a conference room and a hotel room .Smell the fresh air finally and I am free! It's like a prison right now in Danbury. Leaving my hotel room - just transported ( I say transported as I even use the lift - no walking involved) 7 floors till I'm right in the training room for the duration!I travel with some work guys (god I really started to say that bloody slang word that those yankies use or maybe it's just the company I work for), from Brewster in NY state to Grand Central station. It's still snow all around. Ariiving at New York it's feeling even colder- the New Yorkers say because of the wind chill down the corridors of overhanging skyscrapers. My fingers are numb ( I ahd gloves on) and even my toes become numb as we walk some blocks from Grand Central trying to flag a taxi. One stops, asks where we ARE going, I thought we are supposed to TELL the taxi driver and drives on! Welcome to New York. So we keep walking but I am now like a moving icicle, chilled meat on a stick! one English'guy' that is with us has been here before and was directing us to walk towards Broadway to our hotel. However, we soon discover - in fact he does not have any clue whatsoever, and is a typical English Stubborn guy who wants to prove he is right, but we know he is wrong. Ross and I are angry we were in NY just the last weekend tired from the work merry go round and want to just get food and some alcohol in us. So the English guy directing is still adamnant he can find the way for us. Giving up the idea we would ever get a taxi, we walk right back to where we started to take the metro. Travel in NY: The metro is an experience all of it's own, it's its own network, world of culture, people noises, smells.Takig the Times Square express, I pass a big guy, shirt off surrounded in a circle of people clapping and jigging (in between swaying and dancing!) to the guy breakdancing right there on the ice cold tiles (it is still freezing remember) of NY's metro walkways. It is so cool, I felt alive to see this. I watch well dressed ladies with high heeled stilletoes tip-toeing amongst the people and being wary of the waterlogged, melting ice showering them along these walkways. Still snowing hard outside even in this network with its own community that makes me feel warm and happy - it is still dam cold. Changing at Times Square this is the heart of this cultural, vibrant undergound world beneath the streets of NY. Beating loud music is playing on a portable player, some big black guys are standing around the player, occasionally moving side to side but not jigging! Not so much of a crowd but maybe these guys were going to MC...we walked on, but I really could have stopped for some time to watch them do their thing. Last weekend we passed this same spot and there were two very graceful flarenco dancers. The lady wearing black evening dress, layers of frills down to her ankles, they swirled and swirled as people clapped. If I was on the tube in London I would not expect people to stop and appreciate it, the talent and dedication, come on it was still cold. The New Yorkers or maybe the tourists like me, stopped and appreciated.

10/01/2004 or in American format of a date; 01/10/2004 Stamford, CT, USAWow I really am outside, outside in the fresh air, outside of my hotel, outside of what I can only compare to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory minus the great chocolate and Violent Violet - although hang on there probably is such a person, but I won't go into that. I was outside the work making machine and I was that Charlie and the company Factory!I sent many mails, or I sent very long mails to make up for not sending one, no actually it was more like so much happened in the space of 3 days inside the factory that I already had footage to film a third of the sequel film to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I remember when I looked at something like CT, USA...I was going to guess that the CT stood for something Tanning or they made a type and missed the rest of the licence plate number off - 'anyhow', god don't you love the sound of that, I was here in CT (Connecticut) and out of the real world and into the work merry go round, as I also like to call it. At least that is what Bootcamp experience was like. Right, yes, I am outside, that's it...travelling from the Marriott to Danbury, Marriott Hotel to a place called Danbury. We were located in Stamford and there was a mall, Dunkin Donuts, Baskin Robbins and everybody driving 100 metres to get to the mall, wow were they reliant on their cars. So now in the coach going to Danbury, it is our day off after the intense introductory week to the company. It's now minus fifteen degrees outside, the tall leaves trees line the roads and for as far as you can see trees mirror each other. Amongst the trees are small rivines, the waters is ice frozen like icicles hanging from Santas' Grotto. The ducks walk foot by foot over the frozen lake. Passed a place called Wilton - historical society. American wooden coloured houses, churches in grey stone.
