Paris, France

Well we finally were doing it hopping on the eurostar and going to Paris for the job interview I had talked about for so long. The offices of the firm are amazing - in Place de Venome right opposite the Ritz. It was all rather glamorous - Warhols on the walls and complimentary membership to the Ritz gym.

But alas we jus didn't feel comfortable. Whilst most people would jump at the opportunity, we left Paris feeling it was little cold, aloof. It didn't have the feeling of London or New York.

Jordy and his partner made such an effort to show us around - they have a lovely apartment in Montmarche
Madrid, Spain

had the most god awful flight over from Rio - got put next to a large, older man who proceeded to pass wind, let crumbs fall down all over him and managed to snore before the flight had even taken off! Every minute felt like an hour that night.

Luckily could check into the Iberia lounge and had a powershower there - quality! - before catching the afternoon flight to London.
Rio De Janerio, Brazil

Well Rio just didn't happen like how it was supposed to - instead of sun and sexy beach babes to relax with before going to the UK, I got overcast, cold, wet and rainy!

So if you are going to be miserable, get out of Rio I say. So I hopped on the bus and went up to the hills behind Rio, to where the Portuguese King fled after Napoleon took Iberia.

It was actually quite a stunning little town there - a little slice of the Alps in brazil. Spent 2 days wondering around the little town.

Would highly recommend it to anyone
New York City, New York, United States

Well as I was reminded by Nude, I had not updated this in sometime...well after a month of house hunting and job hunting in Paris and London - we had narrowed it down to 2 roles in London and 1 in Paris.

But things took a strange turn the other day, when I rang to ask about one of the firms and the guy said, why don't I come over to New York and interview here? So I hopped on the Qantas website, used some frequent flyer miles and the next day I was on a BA flight over (Along with a tired and hungover John Macnroe (sic)).

Hot hot hot here - 30c plus days. A real summer at last after the awful poor excuse that is London at the moment! Have spent the days shopping, and the evenings in bars and clubs the way it should be.

Any good blog should have some anecdote I think. The guys I interviewed with were the most Wall St/ Gordon Gecko I have ever seen - think pictures in the board room with animals ripping the throats out of others, overlooking 57th St.

I'd also forgotten how helpful New Yorkers can be. The amount of times people have gone out of their way to see if you are lost. More so than London.

Oh and I shouldn't leave out the place I am staying in. Staying with friends in Tribeca. They are renting a converted loft in an old warehouse. AMzing exposed brick, sound system and huge. I have made myself right at home. Miriam has had to go home to oz as her Grandfather is ill.
But this time better - exutivo lived up toits rep, with food and wine served along with a high quality DVD - pirated straight from the cinema Spiderman 3!

Beds went fully flat and actually got some sleep for a change. Went downhill when turned away from the hotel, didnt want us in there that early (or my beard looked dodgy). Found another place on the plaza, but a crap hole ...they had only renovated the foyer to put on the internet! Spent only 1 night there, so we actually dont have any photos of the town...

best bit was the trip out of town to the champagne facilities dug out under a mountain - would be great to have a party there. Spent the rest of the time kicking rocks waiting for the public bus back to town. Got the hell out of there the next morning to Mendoza and a better life (well one in the same hotel for nights at least)
Cuiaba, Brazil

Spent the day trying to plan my next move into the Pantanal. Armed with the trusty Lonely Bi8ch (Who we all of course know, will never let us down) - headed straight to the, and I quote´`highly recommnded`` anaconda tours which are ¨well organinzed¨.

First thing wrong - office doesnt exist anymore. After struggling along in the TAM office, found it was down near the square. Still cant find it. Ask the Tourista information and htey call. THey guy meets met and I get ushered into this dodgy little office. Turns out I am the only one wanting to go and the cost is a cheap 1700 Reals for 4 days (compared to the Bit6ches 300-500). Bargin.

SEcond thing strange - header on ads are different, Set out for abetter deal elsewhere and find again no one is going out on Friday. TRudge home for some lunch to find they mircuolously have found some one Sat and I get the discounted rate of 970 Reals (500USD). Being sick of looking, as most had little English and the bit*ch had recommendned it, decided to take it along with their tour today.

They tend try to corral me into buying airtickets - am sick of this and their credit facilities dont work so they want cash, I pay them 2/3rds now. Inspired move it turns out. I get back to the hotel to find out they actually went out of business and have recently relauched under his wifes name the new business. Dodgy dodgy dodgy. The worst bit is the LP recommends it.

Of course there is no english speaknig guide today. But lets get to good bit -the lago. it the middle of these plains with cattle is this hidden little river and lagoon. The water is the clearest I have ever seen - just like those baywatch oceans scenes from the early 90´s - kept hearin the hoff cheer me on as I floated along, waiting for Pamela to rescue me....sorry sidetracked there.

You float along with the fish, there are sting rays and sea snakes as well. How the hell they ended up 2000km inland I am yet to ascertain. Better yet I was the only tourist there today.

Anyway highly recommend it. Off to the actual pantanal tomorrow, with a promised english speaking guide.
