look around, book Milford Sound kayaking and obligatory o'night in Te Anau and bus to Te Anau (only 2 per day) leaves me just half a day, so not worth skiing (and likely to be icy, I think from forecast). LoTR 1/2 day tour

horrible weather - 55mph winds, freezing and raining on crossing
walk lower down mountain (part of other leg of great walk) start from Whakapapa ski station
absolutely soaking
40mins drying clothes under hand drier in ladies in visitor centre when got back to be dry enough to go and get coffee!
