A day filled with Cape splendor at its best - as this tour combines Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, among the most beautiful and diverse in the world, with Constantia, the oldest of South Africa's wine-growing regions, south of Kirstenbosch.

Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens

Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden is a floral treasure, famous for its beauty and the diversity of the Cape flora it displays. The setting is magnificent, against the eastern slopes of Table Mountain, and only 13 km outside of Cape Town.

The estate covers 528 hectares, and only indigenous South African plants are grown here. A diverse range of fynbos flora and forest grows naturally on the mountainside, and a number of trails lead through the natural Garden. The cultivated garden (36 hectares) displays collections of South African plants, particularly those from the winter rainfall region of the country.

Special features:

The Botanical Society Conservatory displays South African plants which cannot be grown in the outdoor gardens. The conservatory features plants from a range of natural habitats, from high mountain peaks and shady forests to hot, dry deserts. In the main house, a large baobab tree dominates a display of succulents from the arid regions of Southern Africa. Special collections of bulbs, ferns and alpines can be seen in smaller corner houses.
The Peninsula garden features some of the 2 500 plant species found on the Cape Peninsula.
In the Water-wise garden you can learn how to create a garden which requires far less water and maintenance than a conventional garden.
Close your eyes and let your olfactory sense take over in the Fragrance garden, which features plants with interesting textures and scents.
The Medicinal garden demonstrates one of the oldest uses of plants, and teaches about the medicinal values of South African plants. The garden was redeveloped and extended to form the Useful Plants garden.
The oldest part of the Garden is The Dell, a lovely oasis of tranquility featuring Colonel Bird's Bath, tree ferns and a variety of shade-loving plants.
The Protea garden is exceptionally spectacular in winter and spring. During these months the proteas (family Proteaceae), cone bushes and serrurias are in flower. In early summer, pincushions provide a colourful display in yellow, orange and red.
The Restio garden focuses on the incredible variety of texture and form found in the reed family (Restionaceae).
The Kirstenbosch Restaurant caters for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Groot Constantia:

The estate of Groot Constantia was founded as early as 1685 and assigned to the first Governor of the Cape, Simon van der Stel, as an experimental farm for agricultural produce.

Today Groot Constantia welcomes its visitors with the tranquility and beauty that charmed Simon van der Stel all those years ago.

The Manor House, with its elegant gables, is a magnificent example of Cape Dutch architecture. Today it houses a cultural history museum, portraying the early years of Groot Constantia.

The Cloete Cellar, the original wine cellar, dates back to 1791 and houses a Wine Museum, exhibiting various wine making equipment and especially wine storage and wine drinking vessels. The beautiful pediment gable above the cellar is one of sculptor Anton Anreith's masterpieces.

Groot Constantia produces a range of excellent wines, and has over the years won numerous awards for both reds and whites. The wines may be tasted and bought at the tasting cellar, locally known as Bertram's Cellar, at the entrance of the Estate. There is also a souvenir and gift shop. In the production and maturation Cellar, tours and tastings take place daily.

Visitors are offered a choice of excellent dining on the Estate. The Tavern Restaurant, built in the original bottling and maturation cellar, offers a variety of continental dishes and caters for larger functions. The graceful Jonkershuis Restaurant in the historic core of the Estate serves Cape Malay, classical and contemporary cuisine. What could be more satisfying than a delicious meal and a glass of excellent wine, surrounded by atmosphere and architecture, vineyards and breathtaking views.

The Estate also offers stunning walks to various viewpoints. Visitors can order picnic baskets from the Restaurants and let their senses take them to a beautiful place in the peace and tranquility of the Constantia surroundings.

Driving all the way up the West Coast Route towards the North, the landscape changes dramatically into a wilderness of endless sands with a multitude of birds and a few small, lonely islands, battered by the relentless sea.

Rietvlei Wetland Reserve, one of the largest coastal wetlands in South Africa with over 200 species of birds.

One of the finest natural harbours in the world, Saldanha Bay.

Just inland from the secluded harbour of Saldanha Bay one finds the azure waters of the Langebaan Lagoon, focal point of the West Coast National Park. Thousands of seabirds roost on sheltered islands, pristine golden beaches stretch endlessly into the early morning mist and brooding salt marshes are home to vast concentrations of migrant waders from the northern hemisphere. During the spring the strandveld is embroidered with a tapestry of multi-hued flowers, while in the Postberg section many antelope are to be seen in a setting that is as unique as it is idyllic.
120,000 years ago a young woman walked down the wet dunes next to the Langebaan lagoon, perhaps in search of food. Nick-named 'Eve', her perfectly preserved footprints were found in 1995. This caused great excitement around the world, as it lends credence to the 'Out of Africa' evolutionary theory that man originated in Africa before moving north.
The small fishing village of Paternoster (Cape Columbine) has a beautiful, long, deserted beach to offer.
Around the corner is St Helena Bay which was discovered by Vasco da Gama in 1497.
Further north, Velddrif is situated at the mouth of the Berg River, and the estuary attracts large numbers of flamingos, spoonbills, avocets and glossy ibis.
The Rocher Pan Nature Reserve near Dwarskersbos is a must for bird watchers.

Some of the oldest and newest museums as well as the Castle of Good Hope are found in the city centre. The cobbled streets of the Bo-Kaap, its museum and the oldest Mosque in the country are definate highlights. In the Southern suburbs, a stone's throw away from the centre of town, is the oldest wine estate in the country, Groot Constantia.

There are some two hundred and fifty different routes that can be walked up Table Mountain for those wishing to get close to the fauna and flora. Lion's Head can also be walked at full moon and many other short or longer hikes on the outskirts of the city centre can be found e.g. Constantia, Kalk Bay Caves, Newlands Forest and Silvermine to name a few.
The heart of Cape Town has moved from the city centre to the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, which is a historical site as well as a working harbour. It offers everything from home-made arts and crafts, top boutiques, supermarkets, clothing stores, restaurants, take-aways and hotels, cinema theatres, the Telkom Exploratorium and the Two Oceans Aquarium.
There are many businesses in the city centre and shopping centres like the Golden Acre, flower sellers at Trafalgar Square, markets at the Grand Parade and Greenmarket Square, the Pan African market in Long Street as well as excellent coffee shops and restaurants, museums and art galleries. At night there are clubs, pubs and theatres to visit.

Visit Fairview, home of goat milk cheeses and extraordinary wines in Paarl
Peacocks scatter as you turn off Suid-Agter-Paarl Road and drive up to Fairview. Past the famous goat tower, which delights adults and children alike, a warm welcome awaits in the tasting room, where a large selection of wines and cheeses are to be sampled. When Charles Back's grandfather bought the farm in 1938, wine-making was already established - folklore tells of a doctor who prescribed teaspoons of the farm's wines to ill children. Charles Back was recognised as South African Wine Maker of the Year in 1996. Several of the estate's wines have also won acclaim at prestigious events.
Travel to Somerset-West via Stellenbosch with views of the Strand, visiting romantic Vergelegen
Vergelegen, meaning "situated far away", was granted to the Governor of the Cape in 1700 and the property has had a long and fascinating history since that time. Enjoy lunch at the famous Lady Phillips Restaurant at Vergelegen, and be charmed by not only the scenery and history, but also by this restaurant built in memory of 'no ordinary woman', Lady Florence Phillips.
From there take a scenic drive to Muizenberg, enjoying the wide stretches of beaches and white sand.

Detailed Description:Robben Island & Table Mountain Tour

The 11.5 km (7 mile) boat trip from The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront to Robben Island takes about half an hour each way, and the tour lasts about three hours. It includes a comprehensive tour of the political prison of Nelson Mandela, and a bus ride which takes you to various sites across the island. The history of Robben Island provides a fascinating look into the history of South Africa. Other highlights include the 18 metre (54 feet) lighthouse, erected in 1863, and extraordinary architecture of buildings built in the late 1800's, an old leper morgue used between 1846 and 1931 for a leper colony, the wreck of Fung Chung II, a taiwanese fishing vessel which foundered in 1977, the kramat (Muslim shrine) near the harbour and walls of the political prison, built over the grave of the Prince of Madura, who died in exile on this island in 1754. The natural heritage of Robben Island remains important: Elephant and lion roamed here millions of years ago, but today the fauna consists largely of steenbok, springbok and bontebok, and the birdlife includes a nesting colony of jackass penguins, and most important: Seals, after which the island is named. 'robben' is the Dutch word for seals.

Every visit to the Cape should include a cable car trip or hike up our famous mountain to enjoy the spectacular views.

The visitor to Cape Town enters an enchanting realm of Nature that has few equals elsewhere in the world.

Capetonians believe that life's too short to be wasted on bad wine, therefore Sea More-Express will take you on a full-day wine excursion, offering you the best of the Fairest Cape's wines.

Our tour firstly takes you to Stellenbosch, where you will not only taste splendid wines but you will also be charmed by victorian cottages along oak-lined streets evoking Stellenbosch's rich architectural heritage. We will take you to De Bergkelder, or 'mountain cellar', which is a convulted series of cellar chambers cut into the bulk of Papegaai mountain. Within the eerie walls, packed wall-to-wall with wine and lit by candles, you are welcome to taste the fruits of Stellenbosch's renowned vineyards. We will depart from De Bergkelder for a visit to Neethlingshof, where we will enjoy a spectacular lunch among the vines, and taste the Neethlingshof's wines that bear a distinctive label depicting the prominent avenue of pine trees for which the estate is known. The views from the farm are quite spectacular.
From here we will embark to the town of Paarl, one of the counrty's main wine-producing areas. Known for its quality wines and cheeses, we will visit Fairview, situated on the southern stretch of Paarl Mountain. The Swiss mountain goats are a popular attraction, and can be seen making their nimble way up and down the specially built staircase to their loft home. Sea More-Express Tours & Guest House will take you next to the tranquil valley cradling the town of Franschoek, also one of the country's most prolific wine-producing areas. The views of the Franschoek Valley from the Franschoek Pass are unsurpassed. Our tour will take you to La Motte, nearly 300 years old, a wine farm owned originally by the renowned Rupert family in 1970. Here we will experience the celebrated wines that it is famous for.

Most of the estates along our wine routes produce excellent wines, leaving visitors with the dilemma of selecting which estates to include and which to leave off the itinerary.
