Jackson Hole, Wyoming, United States

Left Yellowstone after a cool night and drove west out of the campground.  We passed many groups of buffalo's and a couple moose and an eagle.  Unfortunately we really wanted to to south towards Grand Tetons, so after leaving the park we entered again and passed the same Buffalo's, mouses and eagle.  We headed south though the Yellowstone bubbling waters on the side, steaming areas on the other side.  We stopped at painted pots made by boiling mud bubbling up.  Another storm was blowing in with wind and hail.  A few mile later we arrived at the Old Faithfully Geyser and made hot chocolate in the moterhome waiting out of the cold until the next show.  We waited in a light snow and wind for Old Faithfully to blow off, it was worth the wait.  Driving south along the Yellowstone river and a few partially frozen lakes through some of the most beautiful country of our trip.  It was lightly snowing most of the day as we drove to Grand Tetons National Park.  We visited the visitor center and took pictures by the incredibly beautiful lake with th e snow capped Tetons in the background.   Again we drove south though the Tetons area towards Jackson Hole.  Dinner in Jackson Hole and a quick look around another great little city.  We signed up for rafting on the Snake River for the next day, but backed out when realizing the high was going to be 38 and lightly raining and water very, very cold.  We camped along the Snake River south of Jackson Hole at a nice KOA.  Spent the night cleaning cloths, showering etc.

Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, United States

Left Sheridan and headed west towards Yellowstone we drove over at pass in the Bighorn National Wilderness Area.  It was snowing pretty good over the pass but not sticking on the roads.   After the pass the weather warmed and sun appeared and was beautiful all through to Cody WY.   After lunch in Cody we headed in to the Yellowstone area, we saw big horn sheep on the hills, snow around lake Yellowstone.  Buffalo walking in front of cars and moterhomes.  We drove around the north part of the Yellowstone loop to view the mud pots, Yellowstone falls, Buffalo.  It was lightly snowing through out the day and ended up camping in Yellowstone, near the west entrance.  I walked around and was talking to the ranger lady who was setting up her 9:00 wilderness ranger talk.  As we were talking a herd of Buffalo walked into the outdoor theater area and we had to back up all the way to the parking lot.  Finally we sat in the car until the Buffalo walked past our area.  Her presentation on wolfs and ravens was good.

Sheridan, Wyoming, United States

We woke up at the best KOA of the trip, complete with pancake tent.  A family could stay 3-5 days just having fun in the beautiful KOA campground.  We headed out south west towards Jewel Cave National Monument.  We did not have reservations and did not want to wait until late in the day to see the incredible cave, maybe next time.   We headed north to Hwy 90 to take us west to Yellowstone at least a days drive away.  We ended up at the Sheridan WY.

Mt Rushmore, South Dakota, United States

Headed west towards the Black Hills stopped at the Minuteman Silo National Monument to see an actual building that was used up until 1990 to shot off a Nuke if needed. We went down in the Silo where the two officers would have turned the keys if the orders came to send off a Nuke. Then back to the Badlands National Park lunch in Badlands. The colors of the hillsides and rocks are beautiful. We saw some wildlife along the 30 miles of road through the Badlands. We again headed west and then south to Mt. Rushmore the clouds and rain gave way to a good view of the Presidents. We had dinner in the parking lot waiting for the 9:00 P.M. talk and presentation of the flag in the outdoor amphitheater under the Presidents. After a 10-minute talk and 20 minute movie about the lives of the Presidents they shined light on the faces and lit up the mountain. We all sang good bless America and the pledge of allegiance led by a visiting Boy Scout troop. They had all the military active and retired personal come up on stage and they held the folded flag and told their name and branch of service to a great applause from the audience, it was a very moving evening.

Kennebec, South Dakota, United States

We left Omaha with clean clothes and bedding and headed north west to South Dakota. We drove along the Missouri river where Lewis and Clark traveled for their great adventure and discoveries. We stopped along the river a few times to view historical things such as a replica of a keel boat Lewis and Clark would have used and visited museums with artifacts from their adventure. We took many pictures of the Missouri river and view where they stopped along the river. We ended up at a KOA in Kennebec "The Nicest Small town in South Dakota". We had the biggest storm of the trip that night with thunder, lightning, and a lot of rain.

After many loads of laundry we headed over to Aunt Florene's Masonic Senior living apartment to have lunch with the family. We walked around the grounds and looked at the gardens the Seniors living there grew including vegetables and spring flowers. We took Aunt Tracy around to a few shops looking for a small table she needed for her new place in a assisted living building in Omaha. We ended getting her a bata fish for companionship instead. We took aunt Tracy back to her apartment and set up the small fish tank then back to cousin Denise's for dinner with the family and Glen's daughters and granddaughter.Cousins Sharon, Denise and Alissa were instrumental in getting Aunt Tracy moved from Florida to Omaha this year because she needed more help with medical needs and to be with family. It really was a great act of compassion the cousins did for Aunt Tracy and should make us all proud to be part of the Cain Family.

Cummings, Iowa, United States

Grandam Karen made us breakfast and played cards with the boys. We headed north-west to Perry Iowa where my father Joe grew up. We took pictures in front of St. Patrick School and walked down main street. There was a fire in an autobody shop in town and smoke filled the downtown area. We then drove back to Des Moines and took a picture in front of the Living History Farm where Mary has a great picture from her child hood. Both my dad and Mary's mother's family lived in Des Moines. We then headed to the Glendale Cemetery to pay respects to Mary's Grandmother, my Aunt Elieen and grandma and grandpa Cain, all with in a stones throw of each other, small world. We ate lunch near Meryl Hay shopping center and took a nap waiting for my cousin Tom Miller to call. We meet my cousin Tom and his longtime companion Deb for dinner in West Des Moines. We headed to my cousin Tom's house on 50 acres in the Cummings area of Iowa just west of Des Moines in Madison County. They filmed the movie Bridges of Madison County about a mile from his farm and included his farm in some of the driving scenes. We parked our moterhome in his long flat driveway on the farm. Tom and I stayed up till midnight talking about dogs, fishing and the family.

After making breakfast on his patio over looking his farm and horses we headed west to Omaha. We toured Creighton University where Mary went to medical school. Then headed to my cousins Denise her husband Glen and their daughter Megan's house just a few miles west of Creighton. My two aunts on my dads side, aunt Florene and aunt Tracy and cousin Alissa came over for dinner. The weather was great finally sunny and warming up after a week of cold weather. We parked our moterhome on her street in her planned community in front of Denise and Glen's house

We took the Moterhome in for a tire repair and the tire guy had one tire to match our current tires so we bought it for our spare and headed to Des Moines. We arrived in Des Moines at 4:30 and meet with Mary's cousin Tom Wright in downtown Des Moines for dinner in the new trendy downtown area.  We toured his modernly refurbished offices which use to be the Tucker Car showroom and a parking garage. After dinner Tom drove us around the city to show us all the new buildings and refurbishing going on. The planning and design company he works for is doing many of the buildings in the area. We then headed to his house in north west Des Moines area to meet his family, wife Jenie, daughters maya and piper and Jenie's mother Grandma Karen. Jenie was busy working on the downstairs tiling of the bathroom and Grandma Karen was watching over the beautiful girls. We parked our moterhome on the street next to there house and watched the thunderstorms light up the moterhome all night.

Rock Island, Wisconsin, United States

Drove through beautiful farm country to the WI and IA state line.  We stayed at the KOA near Rock Island it had mini golf, pool, hot tub and fishing.  The family really likes mini golf especially if it is free.   There is an old rock quarry here filled and stocked with fish.  Many Canadian Geese and their young walk around the campground.  We ordered pizza and salad tonight and watched the movie The Fastest Indian, Thanks Starkys for the movies.
