McMurdo, Antarctica

Camping in Antarctica! Luckily, it was a very warm day, around 40 degrees. We were shoveling snow in t-shirts! I didn't even have to build a cover for my snow trench, I just slept under the blue sky with my head tucked inside my sleeping bag!
McMurdo, Antarctica

I was one of 400 lucky people who were able to go on the Coast Guard Ice Breaker, "Polar Sea" for a 3 hour cruise to the ice edge, where the whales were abundant! We also saw bunches of seals and skuas(the scavanger bird around here), also a couple little Adelie Penguins were waddling around out on the sea ice as well! It was so beautiful. Watching the ice break was also really exciting. The sound of the boat hitting the ice, then watching the ripple effects and the icebergs bumping into each other causing such commotion was magnificent! It was really mezmorising to watch the ice and water move around us, the boat was really powerful!
McMurdo, Antarctica

The Icebreaker finally got here. We've been watching it slowly trudge through the ice for weeks now. Leaving a trail of open water, a sign of life, behind it! The penguins and seals now have no excuse not to come up and visit us! The vessel is not far behind the icebreaker, bringing supplies and carrying out our waste. I was lucky enough to be surrounded by the little Adelie Penguins a few nights ago. As I walked up, there were about 50 people standing around, taking photos already. I squatted down, began snapping away and they just came to me, they wobbled and hopped their way right up to me. Makes you wonder who's checking out who?! They are so cute and very shiney. I really wanted to reach out and touch them, but I didn't!
