Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

I cannot believe how quickly the last month has gone by and I just realize it has been exactly one month since my last blog! So what's new do you ask?!

I had a wonderful Christmas Day with a friend's family along with making some good money for working the holiday! Lots of people are on holidays at the moment and plan to be taking some in the new year so even more working hours for me lined up! Of course excitement for more travel money!

So my friends father's side of the family is from Maltawhich has delicious food that I can't even spell let alone pronouce carrectly so I won't even give it a shot! Pastry type type dishes along with lots salads seasoned with garlic! I can't even remember all of the dessert dishes that looked so good! As for me I am not a sweet person as much as a salty person so I was very happy with stuffing myself with the main meal and ending it wigth juicy watermelon! One of my favorite dishes on a hot summer day!

As for my Christmas Day it was the first away from family and snow and I hate to be honest but it wasn't too hard! Of course I missed family but being around a happy family like I was it felt like I was 'home'. Everyone just mingles all day while snacking on bits! I can happily say that I didn't miss the snow and cold at all. I didn't even think about it! I could get used to this constant warm weather! Well, if I wanted it year round I would have to move north as Melbourne can get quite chilly in it's winter months! But hey, it's not -50something with a windchill!

I found out as well that I have a cousin coming over from Canada in five days from now. I haven't seen her in quite a few years so it is funny we will meet sometime within the next six months on the other side of the world. I have been attempting to help as much as I can by giving helpful hints on ways to go and how to get sorted upon arrival. Little things that are greatly appreciated to new travellers to new areas! For her being young I think she may have fun working in the fruit-picking field. It's a fun way to extend your working holiday visa in Australia as well as meet lots of fellow backpackers! Good she knows a few backpackers already from working in the hospitality industry in Banff, Canada and in this world it is who you know!

I haven't taken up any other free tours yet which I am crazy not to! I will have my schedule up soon so bookings will be made then! The Great Ocean Road is a must. Last weekend Katie and I did a bit of a drive to the Great Ocean Road. Unfortunately not a big one but made it to Apollo Bay from Melbourne....and back again. We stopped at a nice beach in Torquay where each of us burnt to a crisp after applying sunscreen generously on our bodies! Being outside for about two hours and just starting to peel one week later is not fun! New Year's celebrations in two days and I am exfoliating to no end so I am not peeling in areas that will show! Glad my dress isn't too short or else my legs would look disgusting!

So plans for new year's are at a place called The Point in Albert Park. It is a cabaret type celebration with different areas of DJs, dancing, fireworks, drinks, etc, etc! Sounds like a good time and it ahd better be after spending $145 on the ticket! It sounds expensive but after everything is included (finger food and alcohol and entrance fee) it isn't really that bad of a price. Plus trams are free for the night so even better! Hopefully they run throughout the night as getting a taxi home would be almost impossible!

I have taken quite a few photos and will post some soon! New Year's Eve I wouldn't surprise myself if I take about 500 as I am a photo nut! My motto is you can never take too many photos!

Take care, happy, safe travels and Happy New Year's to all! Best wishes in 2009!

PS - I posted the photos alot soononer than I thought I would! Just wait for New Year's photos as I may have a few more hundred............ :)
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

So just a quick note on my absolutely horrific story of the day! It
gave me an absolute heartattack and it literally made me cry! I was
scared to death and may have nightmares all night tonight! And yes just start laughing now as that's what everyone here did!

So I tried
opening our blinds after work and it jumped out at me and luckily with
the swat of my hand it landed on the couch instead of on me! I was on
the phone at the time it happened which was comical to the person at
the other end and it just sat there without moving. After watching it without taking my eyes off of it while gabbing after a few mintues I hung up the
phone. While walking outside to take photos and while walking in and
putting my phone down to capture it it was gone!!! I closed all doors
and slowly moved everything in the livingroom until I finally found
it! With a spatula in one hand and a wooden spoon in the other while
moving pillows off the couch I had finally found it behind one of the
pillows! I was so happy Bev, my roomie, pulled up to see me as if I
just got a very bad phone call or something and laughed as she walked
in, basicly pulled out the bug spray to freeze it and threw it
outside. She had a laugh while I stayed far away and took more
photos! Enjoy the photos and on another note I will be shopping for a
real bed (instead of sleeping on the blow up one that spiders and other crawlies can get on easier!) with my Christmas
money! Haha! Everyone laughed at me but helped me suck up my tears!

Guess what I should have known would eventually come! And yes check my close-toed shoes before I put them on and now know to check the blinds as well before opening!

Happy New Year!
