One of the guys in our tour group, Vincent, is an AVID race fan. I mean he watches and follows as much car racing as possible. He had an idea of going to a local race car track and I thought that might be a fun idea to go to my very 1st car race. http://www.concordmotorsportpark.com/. So he looked up on his computer how to get there. It was right off of the main street by our hotel. PHOTO_ID_R=lowes-motor-speedway---sign.jpg On the way there, we passed by the NASCAR race track, Lowes Motor Speedway. Across the street from the race track was their dirt track. So we start off down the road to this track and on the way we decide to get dinner at McDonald's so we don't have to eat anything at the race track. We leave McD's and head on down the road, and keep heading down the road. It is about 30 minutes into our drive when we realize that we have gone too far, even though we have not left this main road. So we head back in the original direction from which we came from and have no idea where this race track is. We even stopped people in a parking lot to ask them where this track is, but they have no idea. I ask him what the address is of this location so I can put it into my GPS on my phone. It takes us about 10 minutes to get to the track. The track ended up only being about 15 minutes from our hotel. I will never go by Vincent's direction again. We get into the track and tickets are about $12 a piece. Not too bad for a little local night race. Vince tells me that there are about 4 races that night, from small engine cars to late model stock cars with a lot bigger engines. The cars are SO loud. Thank god I brought my ear plugs for this one. it is interesting to watch how much work these guys put into these cars and how passionate they about this "sport." All of these races have wrecks in them and that is fun to watch, but the excitement ends soon after that. The races ranges anywhere from 15 to 75 laps of this 1/2 mile track depending on how many wrecks there are, how long they take to clean up and, and how long the race was originally scheduled to be. All in all it was an experience, but if I had to do it over again, I would not. After about 10 laps it was boring to watch without the wrecks. I guess the only other thing that kept the excitement level up was the announcer was able to talk to the drivers over the loud speakers with the communication setups that they had in their cars. Bring on the crash-em-up derby. That is about the only thing that will keep my interest in races.
