... was faster to travel on the Outside but after our marathon trip from Marathon, we decided to stay on the Inside. Besides, everyone told us that the trip on the ICW from Miami to Fort Lauderdale would be one of the most beautiful and memorable stretches of the ICW and it was. After first passing the through the highrises of Miami, one then enters the Miracle Mile (it actually 2 miles) of Fort Lauderdale, so named because of the many homes, condos, restaurants and shops located directly ...
... next door. After two cruises with portholes, we had decided to upgrade to balcony cabins – highly recommended. Great place to sit with a laptop writing your travel blog listening to music on your iPod!
After checking out our cabins, we headed off to explore the ship and grab some lunch. The Freedom is large, but not super large that you would get lost. I have sailed on the Pacific Dawn twice, which takes 2000 passengers; this one is slightly larger with ...
(Note - We were at sea today and not in Miami.)
Today was a relaxing day at sea.
We took advantage of our free tour of the bridge today which was great. Actually, Joanne was not feeling that great so she did not go. I asked a random stranger if she wanted to go on the tour with us - she accepted and had a great time on the tour.
For the tour, we got to see the bridge ...
... the fire fighting test, just not the life test. Needless to say, I'll be keeping my fires in the grill in the kitchen!
I felt I deserved a relaxing weekend following this stressful experience. We enjoyed the beach; I still bask in the beauty of the sky and the water, soaking in the fact that this is really my life right now. I love going on a night adventure and seeing the lights from the boats, and the stars are so bright. It's nice ...
... perimeter of the ship on deck 5 in the open air, measures 667 meters! 3 laps is 2km. I wanted to do 4km so off I went and finished in about 20 minutes. Its so much better than running on the machine where I usually get bored. Here, the view, smell and sound of the ocean is so exhilarating and peaceful at the same time. It doesn't get any better.
For dinner, I had bought a $70 package (per person) which allows us to visit 3 of the top speciality ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Palm Plaza Gay Male Resort Fort Lauderdale
What a dump. We were very disapointed. I understand that it was sold, and that this is the last season. It needs to be bulldozed. Rooms dirty. Shabby at best. Asked for late check out. Hurried out of the room before requested check out time @12:30.
Nice and cozy
A very nice deal without major pretensions. Nice accomodations and staff. Walking distance to the beach and short drive to Las Olas Boulevard. We were traveling for many days in different cities in Florida, so we needed a comfortable, but not too expensive, hotel. This was indeed the place.
The service and staff of this guesthouse in Ft. Lauderdale were above and beyond. From the moment we walked in we were immediately welcomed and made to feel like family. This is wonderful and inexpensive place to get away from everything, and without the attitude!
Loved the Resort!
My partner and I have stayed at the Palm Plaza Resort in Ft. Lauderdale four different times during the past two years! It's a great place with a very friendly staff who are ALWAYS willing to accommodate!
We also believe that the price is right. Comparing this venue to others in Ft. Lauderdale, the Palm Plaza is moderately priced. This is good, as we usually spend 5-12 nights per visit.
The rooms are very well kept (the suites are great!), and the resort also has a very private, clothing optional pool area. Great place to just hang out during the day!
Kudos to the management and staff! Keep up the great work. We'll see you very soon.
Great Place to stay!
A most pleasant ten day stay for my partner and I. The first impression entering the courtyard is a lush garden surrounding the pool. We were greeted by friendly staff who were eager to assist and help us explore the area. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Parking was ample and easy. Continental breakfasts were in rooms the night before - being there for a late night snack if so desired.
Guests were outgoing and from all age groups and multiple countries. The beach is in easy walking distance. Even being so near the beach, we preferred to enjoy the pool, garden, and company of other guests.
We plan to stay there on next trip, and will encourage friends to join us.
My visit to the Palm Plaza Resort in Fort Lauderdale exceeded my expectations. The accomodations were more than comfortable and the continental breakfast was not only tasty but more than enough to start the day. The grounds were lavish and well groomed. You felt like you were in a tropical paradise. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They made me feel right at home.
I highly recommend the Palm Plaza Resort.
My partner and I stayed at the Palm Plaza last winter and found it to be ok, at best. Although the staff was helpful, they weren't particularly friendly. I agree with the reviewer above who stated that the rooms were clean, but tired. We also had problems with the plumbing and noticed a bug issue. The guests were nice and tend to be in there late 30's to 40's (with some in there 50-60's).
Relaxing and Peaceful
Very nice place, peaceful and relaxing; beautiful garden with lush palm trees and clean pool. Hotel is only three blocks away from the ocean and right on the Intracostal way. Rooms are nice and clean; staff is friendly and helpful. Will definitely return.
Right on the Money
Stayed at the Palm Plaza end of May 2003 and loved it. It's a renovated motel near the end of a quiet street, only a five-minute walk to the beach. Stores, gyms, bars, are only 5-10 minutes' drive away. The property had been recently painted and landscaped, and the pool was sparkling throughout my stay. I took a tour of the property, and the suites are MUCH nicer than the rooms. My partner and I found this an exceptional value for the money. And yes, the pool furniture does need to be updated, but I'm in Lauderdale for the ocean, not chlorine. I will be returning in 2004.
First, a clarification- the Palm Plaza Resort is NOT a block from the beach, more like three or four. Not bad, but the water you see from the balcony is the intracoastal-- seen across another property. Property was ok, not exceptional by any stretch. Rooms were tired but fairly clean. Some cockroaches, plumbing fixtures were inexcusably falling apart in the (obviously original) shower. Breakfast was not served poolside, as described, but left in your room the day before so you could take it poolside if you desired. Heated pool was only minimally heated-- we had to have it turned up in order to swim after dark. There is NO hot tub (I saw varied reports that mentioned one.)Public areas were tidy, but the spotty lawn and leaky sprinkler system made sunning a bit muddy, and the pool chairs were all broken. There is no internet access on site, except phone jacks on the room phones. Wireless access is being established for those who travel with laptop. We recommended a terminal for guest access. Overall, cheap and ok, but I won't stay here again with so many other Ft Lauderdale options.
