    Not as described

We got dropped off by South Sea Cruises bus transfer (after our island trip) on the main road to the airport, and from here it was about 5 min walk to the hotel.

Reception and common areas are nice and welcoming, pool a decent size but was too cold to use when we were there. However it was a bit prison camp regarding rooms. This was our first time having to go upstairs in Fiji and there was no fella to offer help with luggage which was a bit annoying, once in the room, it was certainly a step backwards decor wise from anywhere else we had been on this trip, with old battered furniture and all a bit spartan.

This room is not cheap (nor is it expensive) at about £54 the room, but this was on par with other hotels such as the Mercure in Nadi, Smugglers at the beach and similar to Gecko earlier in our trip. I looked at the description of the room on my booking and could see that our room should have had a seating area (as every other hotel we had in Fiji had) and a balcony. I went down to reception as I was a bit annoyed at paying this rate for such a scrappy room, and after a bit of discussion amongst the staff they decided that the balcony was the outside walkway to the 4 rooms in our part of the hotel, and that the seating area was the communal 3 plastic chairs and table that people smoked at near our room. I looked at the pictures of our expected room on the booking and the table and chairs were definitely in the room! To rub salt in the wound, later on I found an advertising leaflet for the hotel in our room and the picture of our price grade room in that shows a sofa and table and chairs too! This is blatant mis-representation. Also the booking advertised a king sized bed minimum 150cm. We measured the bed, and this was yet another lie.

The room was very stuffy and we needed aircon to ventilate the room (but did not use for long periods), a fan room here may be a bit uncomfortable, which again is unusual for us to say, as we did not use air con anywhere else in Fiji, but the rooms had much better natural ventilation. Bed had a footboard (which I should have noticed in the pictures), this is just a preference thing, but being tall, these always give me grief.

Fixed head shower a bit annoying, but had hot water.

We took a 5FJD taxi to Smugglers to see a nice hotel and atmosphere by the beach. We walked along and had a very cheap beer at Travlellers rest, whilst watching the sunset and the beach volleyball. Nice vibe on the beach here. Then dinner at Smugglers whilst watching a brilliant cultural show, fire dance and me participating in the snake dance.. Everything here seemed a lot nicer than at our hotel; however it would have been noisy at night. We took a taxi back to our place and slept in our small bed, with white curtains that couldn't block moonlight, let alone sunlight, listened to the sound of passing planes, then up for breakfast.

Now this was pretty good and was available til 11am which was better than other hotels on our Fiji trip; checkout on the other hand was a nasty 10am, so we paid extra for late check out (which I expect is part of their ploy with this inhuman checkout time).

Oh an internet is expensive here, whereas it is free at Smugglers and others on the beach... Mozzie screening good though.

Next day 5 FJD taxi trip to Nadi town where we saw the market area, hindu temple and posted some postcards in the post office. Then we grabbed a cab to the cinema which turned out was just an easy 10 minute walk from our hotel. Had some food in a chicken place in same retail park as cinema, bought a tourist t-shirt from a massive supermarket place, then watched Antman for 6FJD with cheap popcorn and drinks. Much newer cinema than in Suva, and equally well priced. Film ended, we rushed back to hotel (very convenient having all this so close to hotel), shower and check out at 6pm (due to the late check out thing), taxi to airport and off to the USA.

If you get the cheap rooms without aircon and are aware of the potential heat issues, then this place may be ok; but at aircon priced rooms, there would seem to be better options in Nadi (and much of the world!).

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Nadi Bay Resort, it's clean an the staff are so friendly and welcoming especially Lamba she was so helpful to us. The only thing I would say is watch any personal belongings I accidentally left my kindle on my bed and when my friend went back in the room the domestic staff were already in there even though we hadn't checked out yet and my kindle was gone, everyone denied all knowledge of finding my kindle. Although it wouldn't up me off staying again.

After a 3 hour flight and 2 hour time difference we arrived in Nadi just after 5pm.
We arrive at the airport to be greeted by Fijian singers and then yet another que through immigration. We find the office we booked our tour through and they arrange our transfer to Nadi Bay Hotel. The ladies that worked there were so friendly so we grabbed some …

TA hotel review once more has most details of our 1 night stay here. We were to lazy to go to Lautoka, but did enjoy the beach atmosphere.

So Fiji. We had a nice time, and really enjoyed Beachcomber island, but on a cost / benefit analysis we have no real desire to come back any time soon. As part of a RTW where it fits nicely in to the …

So Fiji! We decided Queenstown NZ was technically the furthest from home but Fiji is made up of hundreds of tropical islands so it certainly felt the most remote. It was a bit of a shock to arrive, having adjusted to cold temperatures, english speaking and western features in Australia and New Zea land we were suddenly back to hot and sticky, …
