Shame about the lake

Volcan navigation es muy facil

... easy climb on a well-traveled path - our biggest concern being the enormous land mines being left behind by the looming horsemen. Show a moment of weakness and you were insulted with the offer of: "You want horse?" As the sun began to dip into the hills, we stumbled along tree roots and avalanche debris as the trail leveled & veered off along the edge of the likes of a very high cliff. Nothing about Guatemala screams safe, but I like seeing common ...

Jezero Atitlan, obdano z vulkani

... sem ga sprasevala o tamkajsnjem nacinu zivljenja, politiki, naravi in standardu v Gvatemali.

Arrival. Lake is as beautiful as I remember it.

Hi!
I know I had promised to write my blog earlier, but time just escaped me. Besides seeing friends and packing, I had a lot of belongings to sort through back at my parents' place. So many memories were conjured up that eventually I was distracted with reading postcards and letters/ old journals, looking at my gemstone collection, old mix tapes, art pieces, etc.
Anyway, I just spent about two hours researching how to contact a trust provider ...

Wesley back up and running- SoSo

Yesterday and today... I gave Wesley a good test drive on the roads and decided to head off on my solo adventure through the Guatemalan countryside. There were a few concerns that I wanted to address before I left Huehue though. The clutch doesn't feel the same, and there is still a black cloud of smoke coming out of the exhaust. But sure enough when I decided to address ...

a day in Pana complete with a chiropractic massage

... Panajachel and checked out all the shops - I actually found a dress to wear at the Trump National G.C in Los Angeles in Tuesday night! Lucy found it near the bottom of a pile of clothes and it fitted OK so for about $30 I had something. After a bit of shopping we stopped for some morning tea at the Paris Cafe before walking down to find the masseur. It was this German guy who practiced out of his house and he opened the door in a pair of Harry High pant ...

... but the experience of going into the house and smelling the mix of the smoke, liquor (agua ardiente is what maximon drinks) and incense is quite intense. There is a 10 quetzal fee for taking pictures to Maximon.

After visiting Maximon we went to a very old catholic church. It seems it was the first one around the lake. Inside there is a gigantic colonial wooden altar made by the original santiago inhabitants. It represents the life with the spaniards. It was ...

Volcan Pacaya and the rest of antigua

... We were hugely amazed and also tired! We need to pack our stuff since tomorrow we'll be leaving for Atitlan lake. As we were getting to antigua there was a parade and the central park was packed. It was a celebration they do 2 weeks after the holyweek, and people from all the villages around antigua come and meet at the basilica for religious speeches and activities. It lasts all day long.

After resting a while, decided to go to some bars at night. In the map it said ...

BOOK IT! Don't forget to bring your marshmellows!

... The path was actually well marked & a guide isn't completely necessary but for only about $10 I'd say it was worth it. Admission to the National Park was about $5.50 per person. The hike up was about 1.5 hours and relatively easy. It is worth it for the amazing view! We enjoyed roasting marshmallows over lava! Very Cool! And from a safe
distance we enjoyed watching the volcano erupt.

This was certainly a experience not to miss!
