... I almost contemplated walking back to take a video but I don't like crossing the roads here so I didn't want to go back. Also, it turned me bright red. When I first arrived I almost caused an accident trying to cross the road but I quickly learned that you just cross it like you friggen own it and if you're too scared to do that, wait for a local who'll eventually come along and you can subtly follow them across the highway. Unlike a normal conference, we weren't given the option of picking and choosing what workshops we wanted to attend, instead each session built on the previous one and they all linked together in some way over the duration of the institute. There was also a lot of pre-session reading material assigned which had to be completed in advance, particularly as the lecturers were very fond of "cold calling" ie randomly picking people out from the audience to answer ...

... found that I was also keeping up a little better when Cameron or Mando spoke with the locals. That night, we hit the beach for the turtle release. As far as I can tell, some sort of official digs up the eggs, discards the shells and places the baby turtles onto a bin. The tourists swarm the scene, so I stayed back and waited until the official began handing out the tortugas. There were so many turtles, I was able to get 4 of them to hold, inspect and ultimately release. ...

... in the morning, after the made rush of passengers waiting for tenders was over. Once on land, we strolled around the marina. Cabo was just as we remembered it from our last stop there in December 2011, during our Mexican Riviera cruise on the Sapphire Princess. Just as I do whenever in Cabo, I took photos of a Cabo pelican and a Cabo rowboat.

... All in all, we saw twelve whales today. Lunch was cheese and crackers, olives, lettuce, pita bread and hummus with oil and chalula. Dinner was pasta and red sauce. We toasted the day with a white Russian.


0400-0800 watch. Saw dolphins on watch! Amazing! So fun to watch them play. Had some fun with the sails, the dinghy slipped, fishing line got wrapped around the screw. I later dove the screw in moderate seas to clean the ...
