Amazingly for a town with a population of one million people and a steady influx of tourists, McDonald's, Burger King, KFC, Starbucks and their ilk have thus far failed to make it to the city of Iquitos. Off on the African Queen
We started our jungle adventure from the city of Iquitos. This is the world's largest city (population 500,000) inaccessible by roads. To get there you either take a five day barge on the Amazon or you fly. It is a city with very few cars, not because people walk, but because everyone drives tuk-tuks. These are three wheeled motorcycles with an extra bench seat in the back. You would be surprised how many South Americans can fit on one tuk-tuk. ...

Iquitos was looking like a serious f*ck show early doors…we flew with Star Peru and for some unknown reason we got stung with a double tax…flight was grand but the system took a fair shock when we stepped off the plane…it's been said more than a few times already but for the record this was the most uncomforting heat any of us had experienced…it was like the point in the sauna when you know you have to get the hell out!!
