... countrysides respectively slide by the window for two and a half hours before arrival in Bratislava. Despite this being a European capital city, the station resembled a dismal UK regional town. As with previous eastern European cities, Bratislava improved as I moved and the old town was a small but charming selfie paradise. There was the seemingly mandatory grey eastern European sky as a backdrop to as all of this ...

Sail away from Budapest was a lovely experience. Everyone was topside and it was a warm evening. Most people had got over their jet lag so were socialising and drinking and the views from the boat were great. ... was like being in a fairytale. The buildings were all different colours, and in varying states of preservation. I definitely felt like I was back in Eastern Europe – I don’t know what it was, but it even smelled like my former Eastern European homes. I walked to what I felt was the border of the Old Town and then turned around and wove back. I was almost alone on the street, and it was an absolutely magical feeling. I walked towards the ...

... was getting better and better. I made an awesome salami pasta, ate it like a pig and headed out to visit Hrad Castle (Bratislava Castle). It is perched up on a hill, about 15 minutes’ walk from the city centre and provides great views of the city from up top. Being a Monday, unfortunately the actual Castle itself was closed. After taking in the views for a while, I found a nice little park close to the hostel, perfect to spend a couple of hours blogging. The rest of the evening ...
