... of English. I have held so many children I have lost count, and I have posed with a toothless grinning woman well into her 90's that I had to hold her up for fear she may fall over!

I love coming to this country. It is vast. It is raw. It is unpredictable. It is unnerving. It is also one of the warmest places one can visit.

I have included yesterday's evening in Xiamen, after returning from the round houses into today's post. This brings me up-to-date and on the eve of my rail trip tonight that starts here in Xiamen and ends in Beijing 33 hours later!

Xiamen is a city on the sea. The Taiwan Strait actually. Last night after a bit of a rest and a wander around the lane ways, I am starting to form an attachment with this location. It is very much ...

"Today I spent the day with 2 Chinese students. They first took me to a library which bored me but they then took me shopping. I went back to Jasmine's house where her mum taught me how to make dumplings. They were very tasty. It was quite a challenge though as her parents spoke no English. We then travelled from island to island, to ...

... to Pizza Hut keeping the group waiting (AND they didnt even bring us any! Whats that about!) After some grovelling, all is again rosy in the camp! Last night we were treated to a very posh dinner by Madame Chen, Vice Principal at shaungshi Junior school and one time visitor to Bo'ness. She was a wonderful host and our kids ate well, one of the best meals so far! Lastly to sign off this update - I have now been mistaken for a pupil a grand total of 11 times. Cue the laughter...." - Mr McF
