        ... Beverley from the Sunshine Coast and Rob and Beverly (yes another one) from Ryde in Sydney. It turned out the two Beverleys had relations in common in Rockhampton – unknown to both of them !! So – old home week !!

        Daniel Mallari made a return to the stage tonight and was well received again. Very enjoyable performance.

        Tired from our shore travels today so just back to the cabin after the show for a movie / ...

        ... to the train station, so went off early-ish to Gulangyu Island - just off the coast of Xiamen, it is famous for it's colonial architecture, beaches and history. Foreigners, after the Opium War, would settle here. Like everything in China, getting here was not easy. I ended up getting a taxi to the ferry port as it was only 10 minutes away from my hostel. After trying to buy a ticket at the port, I was told that because I was foreign I couldn't buy a ticket here and I had to ...

        ... have been lovely to have someone playing, or music on a sound system. Nup. An aviary had the biggest gathering of peacocks I've ever seen, as well as pelicans, cockatoos and others. The noise was unbelievable. There was a show starting at 9.30, and about ten minutes beforehand, every bird seemed to start warming up its vocal chords. There was the usual revolting show of trained birds doing ridiculous things like riding a bike. The only funny one was the cockatoo playing the piano. ...

        We had a full day on the South China Sea traveling north from Hong Kong to the heart of new China, first stop Xiamen.
        It was a highly memorable journey as the South China seas were rocking and rolling, and the wind was howling. One staff member told us it was the roughest he had seen in his 6 months on the ship. We did okay until Gillian took an abs class, and found that rolling on the floor of a boat in rough seas is indeed ill advised. Fortunately ...

        ... s big Buddah and lots of other ones on the side, I would tell you who they were but the tour leader had good but broken English which made it hard for getting the correct pronunciation!! We meandered our way through other Temples gradually climbing lots of stairs along the way. The last area to go was to s huge big rock with something to do with Buddah written on it, there was more climbing to do to get up to the top but that was as far as our tour leader went. ...
