... so soon we were back out on the local roads making our way to the north and a couple of areas marked as natural preserves / national parks where we hoped we might find some sand for the boys. ... up out of concrete beaches. So, while we had an excellent meal at a local seafood restaurant, the boys were already beginning to discuss what they like about the beach in North Carolina. I think we were getting some serious homesickness vibes. The only thing that seemed to bring joy to them was the plate loaded with fresh mussels, Blake's new favorite drink 'Cockta', and the thought that there might still be a beach to be found tomorrow.

The ladies on the island of Burano back in the 1500's started to make lace as a way of earning extra income to supplement the fishing that the men did. ... a lovely pizza lunch in one of those tourist lanes full of shops, with foot traffic in both directions. Gondola's seemed busy, we were happy to sit and watch in the afternoon while enjoying a nice cool beer. The Gondolier on the cellphone was interesting.

... and seemed lovely. And it was. However a huge group of Italians (about 40) came in and so our meal took quite a time. Very nice nevertheless – especially Craig’s Taglianini with scallops and porcini mushrooms. Eventually we took the boat back and ambled back to our home for a rest after some gelati.
