... jam packed and there was no room in the over-head compartments for my bag... great.

We made it to Chicago with just enough time to grab some food before boarding our flight to London. That flight was also packed and I have never seen a plane that big in my life. There were 3 seats on the left, 4 in the middle, and 3 on the right, PLUS it was a double decker! We were ...

... on a busy Chicago Saturday. One couple were in the middle of an intersection; another bride and her five attendants crossed State Street (with the traffic lights) in a line, à la The Beatles on Abbey Road. The final group had just emerged from their stretch limousine and were milling around on the footpath of the State Street Bridge, presumably waiting for directions from the photographer. Who knows where they were to be asked to ...

... from lake Michigan. I had to do this just to check that it is actually fresh water - as one of the largest lakes in the world and, even at this fairly narrow point (50mi), seemingly shoreless, the private and snootily guarded local beach we saw (and paddled in) it from might have been the seaside. It's not; the water tastes like regular tap water.

We wound up the evening next door but one at a BBQ hosted by some family friends. All the "check out how new America is" ...
