Volunteering in Ecuador, 2. contribution

... grandchildren, Valeria 13, Fransisco, 10 and Shakira 7 with us to another lake than the one I had visited Saturday with the students. This one was called ‘la Laguna de Sangre’ which means ‘the Lake of Blood’ and the story has it, that a big battle between the Incas and the Spanish colonists took place and that afterwards all the bodies were thrown in the lake, painting the water red. We walked along the lake up to a restaurant which served fresh fish ...

... be passing your time in a city. There was a really good Panaderia (bakery) at the end of the street though so they saw quite a lot of us. Delicious biscuits for something ridiculous like 30c. Yum.

We hummed and hawed a bit about where we were going to head to next but eventually decided on the coast in the hope of some sun. Three days in a rainy city will do that to you I suppose so we headed by night bus to Montanita on the coast.

Bloodsport & Bloodsport 2

... as a 'shortcut' to something only vaguely resembling a path? Anyway, to cut a long, story short we did eventually make it back to the hostel, there were some good views on the way, and we encountered some interesting people/scenery/pigs. Also had an interesting bus ride back to Quito, where they felt an appropriate Sunday afternoon screening for the families onboard would be 'Blood Sport' followed by 'Blood Sport 2'. Can't beat a bit of van Damme apparently.

Braving the Basilica

... rickety ladders. Ladders that led to more ladders. And more ladders. Progessively weaker ladders. Until finally we reached the top of the clock towers - a tiny little room (room is generous, as the ´floor´ consisted of oft-broken wire mesh atop a grid of metal bars, and the ´walls´ consisted of open-air stone structures providing a nice view of Quito and the long, leisurely fall we would enjoy if the damn wind doesn´t die down a little). Here, we tried ...

I make a terrible tourist.

... br>My stomach bug still remains, my lack of appetite also still remains, so don´t ask me what the food is like in Quito, i still don´t know because im unfortunately still yet to try it!
And therefore my time here was spent mostly catching up on life: on sleep and on the internet basically. I needed a break from being a tourist, from tourist sites, and instead was quite content to be in my own little world for a while a work out my next plan.
However, it ...

Day 5

... the whole family (Carlos, Nancy, Maria Jose, y Carla) - it was a crowded table. The meal consisted of chicken, rice, lentil beans, juice, and best of all a big bowl of popcorn in the center of the table (it was quite tasty). Carlos, as opposed to Nancy, insists on having us speak more in Spanish (Nancy is more quiet) so the conversation was interesting. I am doing better than I thought I would though as far as comprehension and speaking go (I can occasionally string ...

... enough time to properly do Chile and Argentina along with the rest. I am disappointed I did not get to the east coast, or Patagonia. But, I have (hopefully) many years left and will eventually come back and get to the places I missed.

Volunteering is something I wish I would have had the time to be apart of. There are many great organizations here, and I should have given back to a land and its people that gave me so much over the last three months.

The ...

... at this point, marianna has grabbed the post of the bridge...the nudge wasn´t very reassuring. people were looking at me and i really wanted to cry myself off of the bridge...on foot, not through the air. but then, that feeling of...you are only here once, just do it...kicked in. being me, my defense mechanism is intelectualization...so i prompted began asking him tons of questions. where do i put my hands, what about after i jump ...

Welcome to Quito: Gimme all your F*in money

... an orchard garden. Nadia was first to do th zip linning and we were sure to instill in her head that she would get stuck in the middle, thinking that it was close to impossible, unfortunatly for her, us and the poor women who had to go get her, it is very possible to get stuck, and she did. Then i felt bad. Luckly for me, i crossed the 300 and 500 meter ziplines without incident. For what its worth, I had a hard time diffinerating ...
