Sharilyn's Grand 'I told you so!'

... with some creative photo cropping. In reality the ‘off season’ Greek beach is littered with trash and very unappealing (at least in this area). But even so, there was a good-humored man to took whatever change we had in our pockets for payment and let us stay without any paperwork or receipts. With an added invitation for a beer, that’s all I need!

Our sailing adventure

... Rich and John bought wine to share with the other passengers and decided to teach them how to play Canasta. Canasta, wine, and electricity made for a decent evening.

Finally, it was the day that the sailboat would take us back to Athens. We sailed most of the day without using the engine. It was quite nice to enjoy the day on the water. By late afternoon we had made it safely back to the port in Athens and disembarked. We grabbed a taxi and headed to Piraeus to spend the night.

Outragious fun

... are marked on it. While your stay in Zakynthos you have some must see points: the shipwreck beach which is absolutely divine, the caves around the eastern and northern shore and a magic location for swimming. The shipwreck is reachable by boat, rather you hire your own boat, or go take an organised tour of the island wich costs around 18-10 Euros/person and it lasts form 10 am to 4 or 6 pm. The caves are seen also by boat but if you go on a cruise you won't see much, because ...

Olympia - The original Olympic Games

Visited Ancient Olympia where ancient Olympics were held for

figures that adorned the eaves above the temple - most impressive.
Tributes were given to Zeus, and the museum is also filled with

Exploring a princely capital

... tourists in town! and after a short walk about we settled down for a drink at the bus station cafe. As usual once off the beaten track the prices were incredibly cheap, and it was an excellent frappe as well. Then we set off to find the church.

I'd gained no clear idea of its location in the town, making me suspect in retrospect that the guidebooks that mention it are based on report and not on first-hand ...

... lots of shady pitches, all of a decent size and ringed with hedges; the gentlemen in charge are friendly and helpful (lots of chances for me to practice my Greek... which came back gratifyingly well thanks goodness) and they operate a very well-stocked minimarket, a bar and a taverna. To top it off, the washing blocks are excellently maintained and there are also kitchen and laundry areas... and best ...

Cruising on Vespas...The Way to See a Greek Island

... could be as well. Basically the only thing that wasn't allowed was biting and gouging out the eyes.

The main street in Olympia was very pretty, quiet, and quaint. It would have been a great place to have a Greek lunch at a little shaded cafe, but we had to move on. We picked up our luggage at the hotel and tried to figure out how to take the local bus to Pirgos. After having the local shop owner do lots of pointing across the street and speaking in Greek ...

Like in a cage

Isn't that funny? I love sun, heat, swimming-pool, seaside, but I got bored in such conditions on Zakynthos. I thought as if I was in a cage. Touristic zone, small Porta Koukla, near Laganas - was too small for the city dweller like me. One restaurant and two shops when I could pay with credit cards. Is it EU at all? With such a huge touristic demand and therfore experience they didn't think much of the facilities.
