Montenegro, the newest country in the world

... and hang out for a while. I can’t even really remember what else we did in Bar. I remember walking the long walk back to the train station early because we were so bored and cold. We played chess in the smoke-filled waiting room then hopped on the train.

Oh, and another thing: in Montenegro (and as you will read in a later blog entry, in Serbia) people can smoke almost anywhere. It’s crazy. Europe is much ...

Finally into Montengro

... do some running back along the coast road as well as I feel I need the excercise. The backpackers I am staying in is pretty nice and it has over 300 dvds so I am very happy with that! All I have done tonight is just chill and watch films I must admit I am feeling quite tired at the moment and am happy to relax here a few days and do some walking and simple sight seeing in the mean time. So far so good Montengro seems really beatiful and pretty modern looking forward to exploring more!

What It's Like to Chill with the Most Ruthless Men

... whereby I was the only American college student standing firm on grave issues pertaining to international justice insofar, the NATO and the former Yugoslavia. Darko finished boasting about me to Mladic after which I in an extremely forceful forthright manner explained to Mladic my political views insofar as NATO's breaching international law by launching military aggression against the former Yugoslavia, by bombing the Chinese embassy in Beograd, and, by purposely bombing ...

... that's what makes it nice. He says: I was pleased when we arrived in Budva. The town was clean and there were what seemed like hundreds of grill stands offering chicken, lamb, fish, pizza slices, and beer. I also heard there were good places for cliff jumping. The hostel Hippo was a little hard to find, due to a lack of signage, but once we located it Michelle's dream came true. We had called ahead of time (actually Michelle had called ahead ...

Cruising through Montenegro

... edge of Southern Europe's deepest fjord. The walls went right up the hill to the fortress, and at the bottom of the hill was an awesome little town with lots of old Serbian orthodox churches. We did our food shopping at a market rather than a supermarket and headed towards the border with Albania! There was a definite degradation in the road quality on the way to the border, a sign of things to come!

... for Saturday straight to Athens as apposed to trying to find the crazy Albanian buses that sometimes run and sometimes dont. So tomorrow the plan is to catch a morning bus out of Budva to Bar from where we catch another bus to Uljinc at the border and take a taxi to the Albanian border where we catch another bus to Tirana. Total time should take about 5 hours. Hopefully.

... capital of Cetinje, located in the mountains. Kotor, and all of the Montenegrin coast for that matter sure were a far cry from Belgrade, and it was hard to imagine that it had been embroiled in the conflict of the 1990's whatsoever. Nonetheless I enjoyed the opportunity to visit the region, sip on innumerable cappuccinos and down a few Nik beers in Kotor's small cafés and pubs, and the spectacular setting was one I wouldn't be forgetting in a hurry.

... the shore, it has backed up against the greenery of the mountainous amphitheater surrounding the cove on three sides. But Budva also boasts a lovely walled old town that is actually not so old, as the original was destroyed in 1979 by earthquakes. The new reproduced walled town sits stolidly at one end of the beach on a narrow promontory jutting into the sea, acting as a punctuation mark on the fun in the sun with a stony finality. Strolling from one end of the beach to the other ...

"Dubrovnik: The cat's meow, the city of King"

... Stay tuned until then. FROM LYNNE: Andy carries around a little piece of paper in his pocket and notes all the sites we see and the funny experiences we have. After spending nearly two hours writing this entry, it is very complete and I don't have much to add. Plus, it's already midnight and we have a big day ahead of us. I will say, though, that we're having a fantastic time and thoroughly enjoying the scenery and the food (although every restaurant in Croatia seems to have the ...

... stolen from elsewhere in Europe seems a lot of something and nothng when you get a swinging seat in a shady cafe. We were able to travel from where we were staying into the old town for the princely sum of one euro on a marvellous little train thing. You might wonder why a non-EU country is using the Euro. Montenegro sought to control inflation by using the German Mark, which was, of course, replaced by the Euro in 2002.
