      The Thai Islands

A travel blog entry by adventuresofec on Aug 05, 2014

Golden stretches of beach, peaceful turquoise lagoons, and 20,000 people partying by the sea. This was our vision for the Thai Islands; but first we had to get there.

We hopped on a Sleeper train in Bangkok after a frantic tuk-tuk drive to the station. We sped south throughout the night without a wink of sleep, and were greeted with a 5 hour delay at the pier. A 9 hour journey rolled into 20 hours of hanging ...

We swam out over the shallow bay and it stayed shallow for 200m. Soon as it got deeper, about 4m, I spotted a black tip reef SHARK about 10 metres about on the bottom, swimming out. Next 16 hours travel back to Bangkok involving a sleeper train, a ferry, lots of driving and 4hrs in a bar. After a gorgeous nights sleep on the train and 2 attempts with hilarious/incapable taxi drivers, we went to freshen up at our hotel and a buffet breakfast. I had about 7 courses, everyone else stuck to 3. ...

... t afford all this, but even with our budget we did something very special today (our second day) and took a boat trip all day and stopped at 4 locations around the island for some snorkelling. Having the GoPro as well means that we can post pictures of what we saw underwater. There is a wide variety of fish in this part of the world, so many beautiful colours as well as clams, sea cucumbers, clown fish, and sharks! We spotted several, it gives goose bumps ...

... push the bike up. And this was with over 1km to go – practically vertically. And we wondered why there were no other scooters on this path!! When we returned the bikes, I asked the Irish owner that we tried to make it to Mango Bay. He laughed, snorted and told us that we would have to be rescued from the beach. So now we know why the Rescue Point guy told us it would be ok!! Money, money, money…

Just after we left the scooter pick-up point, Łukasz and Malgosia got ...
