... very large swimming pool – almost as big as a football pitch – which is a sort of Indian Lourdes. Visitors go there to bathe and be cured of whatever. There is a continuous spring filling the tank and the bathing is done there. This is about 2 m square!! The rest of the water is inhabited by fish and ducks. It is to say the least, a brighter shade of green.

Next temple a Jain temple. Again not allowed in but could look in through open ...

... br> The fourth homestay was Sun Valley tea plantation with a wonderful view. The trees are planted between the tea to stop soil erosion, and the ladies are out picking by hand all day.

... We were shown around, at no cost, by a young Christian lad called Joseph. We saw leaves being dried with jets of air to remove the moisture, after which they were cut and fermented and heated.
Drinking some of the tea in the factory shop we made friends with everyone there, some Christians called James and John, a Moslem Ali and a Hindu lady called Siguna.
We intended to catch the bus back from near there, but then I felt like walking, ...

On arrival in the quaint little station of Coonoor, we took advice from our guide book and the tuk tuk drivers, and headed to Hotel Vivek, slightly out of the centre of the town - what a great choice! We couldn't believe the place was in our budget, with a large grassy courtyard and a balcony with a view over the surrounding mountains. What an adventure, and it had only just begun!
