... time I'll cross it for this trip. Could this be the Great Lakes wind? If so, I'm going to be fighting it for several hundred more miles. I was shooting for Orion originally. I called the campground up there to make sure they had spots. $25 for a tent site. Arghhh! I just couldn't justify it. I went to the library in Sherrard and looked up a satellite view of town. I spotted a church on the outskirts with a big back yard. It also had a 7-eleven nearby, so I decided to hang ...

One day closer to home. 514 today. Started in a light mist/fog when we left the hotel. Ran in and out of heavier spots most of the morning. By our 2nd gas stop we were finally smart enough to put on our rain suits. I had looked at weather radar and we were headed towards a big green glob on the map. Needless to say we rode in the rain all day. Some spots heavier than others. About an hour before ...

... After that was the Needles Highway. A winding twisty highway with sharp curves and switchbacks. The problem with rally week is too many bikers, seriously, hundreds, and some of these tunnels are one lane on the top of the hill. So I wish that we could do this on an off week. I took one short side trip and It was worth it because of the lack of riders. OK. I'm done with Sturgis, but have one more day to ...

Day 5 ride North to Minnesota

... 70 miles an hour. Met a few people along the way. If I was retired, there were a dozen places to visit that I would have stopped for. One little cloud burst, temp dropped from 85 to 70 in a quarter mile and everything was wet. They may not be big here but they are mighty. The day ends in Minnesota . I thought to ride to Mankato to look for Laura Ingles, but 11 hours took its toll on me and so I found a little motel. Dawn comes ...
