Champagne and shocks at the Lake Palace Hotel

Kamal brings us up to the gates of the City Palace. We are given thorough security checks and sweep up the huge drive before being met at a lakeside verandah by beautifully dressed women. Hot towels and bindis again. Our bags are invisibly whisked away and we are escorted down to where our boat awaits. Also crossing with us are a young Russian c...

I spent another day in Jaipur before heading to Nawalgarh. This was a relaxing day but I ended up doing a fair amount. I visited the Royal Gaitor - a kind of Indian mausoleum. After this I wandered around the old city and stumbled across a cute little cricket ground. The field was well kept with short green grass and only about 15 radius.

Underwhelmed in Udaipur

After Jodhpur it was eastwards again to allegedly the most romantic city in India.

Unfortunately we didn't have the best of starts in Udaipur, this time it was Paul’s time to feel under the weather. We’re not sure whether it was the pollution in Jodhpur or the general unhygienic conditions that sent him to bed for the first...

Situada enmig d'una zona que limita amb el desert del Thar, els pobles de la zona es van enriquir gracies a les caravanes que es dirigien cap a Jaipur i Delhi, i avui en dia es possible visit...

Glorious Udaipur

Glorious Udaipur, but not quite the same as last time, since the level of water in the lake is considerably lower than last time, and as yet, there are no health problems!! I am staying with Deepak and Meetu and they are the most kind and gracious hosts. It was Deepak who looked after Vivian when he was unwell here last November - hence our frie...

Jodhpur, Jaipur, Delhi and home to London!

After a very scary 6 hour bus journey, we finally made it to Jodhpur. Indian driving is by far the worst I have ever experienced and it makes tuk-tuk drivers in Bangkok look positively sedate! Got besieged by the tuk tuk mafia before we even made it off the bus and after a stressful drive through town, finally made it to our hotel. Jodhpur is kn...
