Rock Springs, Wyoming, United States vera_und_alexI decided I had too much **** with me, and being the pack-rat that I am, wanted to mail some of it back home. Unfortunately the hamlet villiage of Lyman doesn't have a post office.

And when I inquired about a hardware store... I was also pointed out of ...
Lyman, Wyoming, United States david.tobias... as if it had been left exactly as it was in 1900s. However the kids were excited to find out that Butch Cassidy was a regular visitor to the local taverns.

The post office is still in use and is a stop off for all those walking the Continental Divide (remember we met someone in Dillon who was walking the route) to pick up their post and in the corner was a pile of FedEx parcels ready to be collected (bit of a bummer if the walker timed it wrong and missed
South Pass City, Wyoming, United States prieststripWell we drove last night to Limon Colorado. The baseball game was on so it made the long drive bearable. About 10pm the game was over and we decided enough was enough for the night. We stopped at a rest stop and went to sleep. Sometimes on a long trip we forgo the campground. Why spend money for hookups we wont be using anyway. Today we are driving to Wyoming. We reached Lyman Wyoming about 6pm. Boy there was some wild weather on the drive today. With Wyoming being so flat you can see the ...
Lyman, Wyoming, United States mernmb... and drove there around 8:30pm. We talked with a guy, Tim, from Texas who camped at the site for several nights. Susan asked him about bears in the area. Tim said a bear rubbed against his tent the night before. We left the parking lot without looking back and searched for a motel room.

Fortunately, the Downtown Motel had rooms available. The decor was early tag sale from the 50's and 60's.

Still, it was better to sleep in a bed without the bears.
Lander, Wyoming, United States dhjv62a... all but one sleezy motel were full so we had to drive even farther to get to Green River, Wyoming and ended up paying as much for a hotel there as we would have paid in Jackson 4 hours earlier-oh well. We discussed whether to start our trip home or try and get one more destination in and decided to get some sleep and decide the rest of our plan in the morning.
Green River, Wyoming, United States lfont... rescues. I did attempt to get back into my boat alone, yet was unsuccessful and looked pretty ridiculous. We were unsuccessful in the rolls as our spray skirts would not stay on. Each time we would be close to coming up our boats were so full of water we couldn't roll them all the way. Erv came much closer to actually rolling than I did. The rescues went well. We learned quickly to make ...
Green River, Wyoming, United States idahoroja************************************* Sunday 17th August: South Dakota, Nebraska Had a difficult night's sleep due to howling of coyotes just outside tent. tried to comfort myself with knowledge that there was a person nearby with no tent and just a sleeping bag to protect him from these slathering rabid animals (bit of phobic anxiety creeping in with sleep deprivation). Tried to wake Mike up to protect me but he would not be woken. Lay trembling listening ...
