        ... Portuguese 500 years ago. When the British came to town, they decided to destroy it so it couldn't be used against them. Stamford Raffles (of Singapore fame) happened to be about and managed to stop the fort from being totally destroyed. All that left however, was just one gate house. Still, it was interesting. I've not found the people in Singapore to be fantastic walkers.         ... was gorgeous and it is free to the public. It was like a tropical Central Park in the middle of the city. Daphne and I passed by Swan Lake and arrived at the Bandstand area in a large open space with a loop of road filled with white carnival tents.
