... starts right down at the base of the steep climbing road creating an upper city and a lower city complex which was evident as old drystone walls and overgrown structures could be seen for the whole of the thirty minute climb to the upper city entrance. Izmir and found high rise after high rise in a city of millions of people, on to a beautiful smaller town of Kusadasi where we are staying the night in a lovely hotel overlooking the Aegean Sea and the wharf where the ocean liners come in and out all the time. It is a pretty beach side community with a market and an old city to explore.

Our room is great and we enjoy the evening on our balcony watching the world go by ...

... area with a brand new Burger King restaurant (we needed a coffee and a toilet stop!). It appears these roadside fast food chains are a new thing in Turkey. We haven't seen many and we were the only customers in the huge restaurant. When we walked through the door, the staff were sitting at tables and seemed surprised to see us. We had to wait while they heated up the deep friers and turned on the coffee machine! It certainly wasn't fast food!
