Still in Skoudas

At the moment, we are visiting family around Skoudas. I am very touched by how excited they are to meet us and welcome us to their homes. It is good to see that the lives of all the families have improved significantly since our last visit, but I did not realise how bad Lithuania was hit during the GFC. With the assistance of European Union money, things are ...

... see for miles in all directions - or I should say kilometres! I really did not realise from our last visit in winter that Skoudas had a large lake in the town. In this very hot weather (for them!) of 29 degrees, families are at the lake, swimming and fishing. Of course, it is the long school holidays, so it is much more relaxed. 20 July 2014 Sunday was still in Vilnius with Vytaute. We had a leisurely morning, then went for a walk in the forest which is very close to the centre of Vilnius. It was also lovely to see how many families also come to enjoy a beautiful day. We made today a bit of a rest ...

This time we did find the town without having to turn around, and very glad we did. Kuldiga is famous for having Europe's widest waterfall, the Ventas Rumba, and the camp site was right beside it, although we were a bit puzzled as to how you could actually get a car (or caravan for that matter), into ...

... and it was fantastic! After the walk back into town we stopped for a late lunch at a small cafe. It seemed very reasonably priced and we both ordered some salads. Sadly though they were tiny- like side dish for ketchup sized! And so we both left still pretty hungry, although they were tasty. With the walking spirit we set off out of Kuldiga on the other side of the river towards the old castle ruins. We enjoyed a much longer walk than expected, getting a bit lost but after some help from ...
