Coorg or Kodagu

Coorg or Kodagu the most sensuous place in southern part of India, actually it is border place between the two South Indian States; Karnataka and Kerala.

My first visit to the place was via Mangalore one of the major city in Karnataka, it was really a marvellous journey from there especially through the roads just before the Coorg's capital Madikeri.

I will add more to this later.........

1 month of mooching around India

... i saw the only picture of a tiger hangin up in the park entrance was one of a tigers backside. On foot we set of behind our guide (and protector) He had a single shot rifle in hand just in case we were to get lucky and come face to face with a wild animal .............we walked ......and whispered, ...........and saw many fresh tiget prints in the dirt...........but these animals are elusive............we then took off from the path following some fresh tracks ...

A pilgrimage

... a tusker in the wild is an entirely different experience. We also saw a bison and lots of deer.

Thirunelli is a small blip on the grand map that is India. It is famous for showcasing a 1000 year old temple. What is incredible is that this temple still remains as it did in another era. for Hindus this temple is of great importance as it is the ultimate place for the final rites of departed souls (at least next to Varanasi). We were travelling for some unfinished business with ...

desperate for a break - Irpu Falls

... to talk and discussions went on till 3AM. The clouds were clearing and the moon was almost a full moon. I had lost my voice for some infection and excess brandy and whiskey did not do much good. At best it gave me good sleep. However I snored heavily reminding Sunil of some Airshow.

Next day we walked around the estate and decide to start back. Instead of spending money on Coffee day Sunil adviced that we stop at Maddur Tiffanys and have Maddur Vada and coffee. Good ...

Fantastic relaxing retreat

Hiliya Resort is placed in a remote banana and coffee plantation well away from the chaos of urban India. The scenery is breathtaking and the sounds of wildlife can be deafening. Wild elephant tracks have been found on the site as well as wild boar and monkeys.

The swimming g pool has become an organic fish pond as the climate does not suit swimming, but plans are being made to build a bbq area by the pond which I'm sure will make for a pleasantly relaxing experience.

Sat 23rd May - Kalpetta, Wyanad , Kerala

... the guy in the hotel if we would be ok with flip-flops "sure" he said "it has steps all the way". True if you consider 4 foot boulders and metal ladders up a cliff face to be steps! Note to self: Ignore further Indian advise on footwear...The climb was worth it, and the view from the top was breathtaking.

... A few minutes into the trip it became clear that this was going to be a bumpy ride. This was not the best of news as our ***** were still black and blue from the white knuckle bus ride the day before. My pelvis felt more like a bag of gravel than a solid bone. Ten minutes in, we'd seen a lot of deer. Lots of deer. It's safe to say that deer is not an endangered species in India. We continued around for another hour and three-quarters. Deer ...
