... subsequently expanded and developed by the Dutch and British. Finally a few years ago it was declared a World Heritage Site. Today the fort shows no signs of the original Portuguese Fortress. Most of the buildings inside of the Fort are of the Dutch period. The oldest building in the Fort, built around 1656, is the National Museum. The Dutch Reform Church, built in 1752, can be found in excellent state of preservation.

We made it to Galle and had a nice day wandering the old fort built by the Dutch in 1663. The impressive grounds have been named a world heritage site. The colonial style streets are a bit cleaner and the restaurants a bit fancier. We had a really nice lunch, saw some old churches and sites, then slowly made our way back home to Midigama.
