Villa Rainbow St. Maarten/St. Martin

Arrived in sunshine and moored opposite the Oasis of the Sea. This cruise ship is on its maiden voyage and is massive – it carries 6500 passengers and 3000 crew! We took a taxi with three other women from the boat to Copuyec Beach. After travelling fro ages through the eternal St Maarten traffic jam we reached a beach with no loungers, shades, snack bar or anything. It was totally remote and not fit for our purpose ...

... a community feeling to it, especially because we visited in the low season, hurricane season. The steets were very quite, many shops were closed and not many tourists were visiting the island overnight.

We stayed for 2 nights and almost didn't made it back to St. Maarten because a hurricane was passing close by and the seas were too high for boats to run. So we ended up taking a plane.

So our trip to St.Maarten/St.Martin is quickly coming to an end. We only had a few days left and contemplated taking a ferry to either St. Barth's or Anguilla. Unfortunately, neither of those came to fruition. Most of our days were spent visiting the French side of the island. We spent a long and lazy afternoon at Le Galion Beach so our little one could play in some shallow water. Having landed safely and now driving around in our tiny Hyundai Atos (not Smart Car tiny, but close enough) to the Westin Dawn Beach on the unpaved roads of St. Maarten, we noticed lots of construction going on. ... ever tasted. We all thought of Pam and how she would have loved it! Shopping was a great success… T-Shirts, trinkets, jewelry, vanilla, etc. ; another memorable Philipsburg shopping day.
After returning home it was off to the beach to finish the day with a refreshing swim. Over the most delicious, mouth-watering BLT’s cooked by Cindy (who is dictating this sentence) we planned our next day’s itinerary.

We were at sea for a day before we reached the island of St. Maarten. The seas were choppy and the ship did get bounced around but not that much. The weather was warm and sitting on the deck enjoying the pool was where most passengers spent the day.

... para la familia. Llegamos a un mercadito local, compramos, y nos volvimos caminando cargando bolsas pesadas pesadas por la carretera, con mosquitos como aviones, yo quejandome y papa diciendome que siga, que habia que llegar. Y llegamos, con las manos adoloridas y picados cientos de veces por esos parasitos voladores, y pudimos cenar juntos con alegria.
