Batemans Bay, New South Wales, Australia sc_myinitial... get out too late. They're calling it Black Saturday over here. Supposedly the flames were moving at something like 60 mph and jumping up to 10 miles ahead of the fire front, and many towns werent told that they were in danger until after they'd already been hit. Im actually pretty amazed by the number of people who died and homes destroyed. I mean, in the western US, we have fires every year, and its usually pretty big news when even a few houses get ...
Batemans Bay, New South Wales, Australia murf6481... hadn't used boiling water to fill the pot. I was disgusted to say the least. After this, we went to the Old Mogo Town Gold Rush Theme Park. This was really good, it's a town that's done up just like it would've been back in the 1850s. You can pan for gold (me and Neil did, we still aren't millionaires!), and have a guided tour around the town. The guide was very funny and had a lot of knowledge about what life was like back then. That took us a good ...
Batemans Bay, New South Wales, Australia allmans... day before eating at the edge of the road). Guess what, in the same way we had managed to miss every event or festival by a matter of days in all the towns we had been to so far, there were NO KANGAROOS. But we still took some great photos on the perfect beach (perfect, minus the Japanese tourists taking photos!) On another day, we went to a wildlife park to get our first glimpse of a koala. We learnt that they are lazy, act as if they're under the ...
Batemans Bay, Australia tina_campbell... was back into the car and off to the Australian Institute of Sport. Neither of the girls had any interest in going so I was off on my tod. I had pre-booked a private tour of the facility and indeed it was probably one of the main reasons for coming to Canberra. For those that don;t know, the Australian Institute of Sport(AIS) is where all elite athletes of all codes go from a young age to receive training in various sports. It was set up in the late 70s after New Zealand ...
Bateman's Bay, Australia mariborkevSpent this weekend in Kioloa National Park on a CVA project. The work was pretty light, walking down the beaches looking for sea spurge, a Mediterranean weed that lives in the bilges of ships. These beaches were pretty clean, of both sea spurge and trash, so there was a lot of sand walking and not a lot of work. Not ...
Bateman's Bay, Australia marillionkmHi ho, after a long absence from the internet I can sit down and write a few notes. My diary is in the car so I will fill in the blanks at a later date. What a fantastic experience I have had over the last 4 months whilst I have been away from Tasmania but one of the best feeling was when I was on the deck of the Spirit of Tasmania about 5 minutes out of the Mersey River before we docked ...
Launceston, Australia jel1957... I opted to go and learn properly and not just grab a board and try it myself. So that is why I am now in great pain, after 5 days of surfing I now find breathing difficult, it is very, very, very, very, very, hard work, and not being in the greatest physical shape, I was very tired and in lots of pain and aches, and bruises. Fortunately one of the girls that attended Surf Camp was a very willing masseuse, in the shape of a nice Dutch lass. After having a few ...
7 Mile Beach, Australia benihnioFirst day on the first stage of our aussie travels. So after picking up our hire car (mighty impressive with cd player and a sporty red colour) and saying a choked up goodbye to Tony and Sarah with promises made to meet up in Perth if all goes well with Tony's leg, we hit the road towards our first stop Batemans Bay. After spending an hour trying to get out of Sydney. First stop was Jervois Bay where it rained, not a good start! We were then faced ...
Sydney, Australia carolandthomas... back, which in order to preserve the magic of the area has to be a good thing. Driving to Eden consumed the remainder of our day. Twofold Beach Resort Caravan PArk was empty, bar two manly looking ladies who were camping, so we had no problem booking a cabin for the night. A 20 yard stroll took us onto Nullica beach where we sat and watched a pair of Pelicans turn pink as the sun set behind us. Expenses: accom 49.50, fuel 35.10, lunch 5.50, inet 3.60, laundry 6, supermarket 7.10
