      ... filthy shoes and socks - was a grim way to start the day, and our sleeping bags and panniers were covered in mud. Everything felt damp, but it had stopped raining. It took us about an hour to reach our high point (physically not emotionally) in Columbine before descending into Steamboat Springs. We stopped on the way at the Steamboat Lakes visitor centre and emptied our wallets of change in order to empty their vending machines of snacks. Not a dignified site to see us downing packets ...

      After lunch I went riding in the indoor ring. Trainer Terry gave me a lesson on Oreo with wranglers John and Nicky. We worked on downward transitions: trot/walk, canter/trot and canter/halt. We rode about 1.5 hours. I used to ride English at home, had my own horse etc but now I only ride when I go to the ranch, but I always have to get on and ride at least once during my stay.
