Off to Umbria

December 7, 2009

Didn't know what to expect of Perugia, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised. It actually have a very medieval feel to it. It sits atop a mountain and I can see why it was originally located here as one gets a very beautiful view of the valley below….and any wandering mauraders! Italy is on a 4 day holiday since the Feast of the Immaculate Conception falls on Tuesday. The ...

On To Umbria, And The Very Spiritual Assisi

... world). Above each of these 28 parts are corresponding Biblical images of the Old and New Testaments. Both the frescoes and the corresponding Biblical images are just magnificent.

These frescoes literally revolutionized art in the Western world, as – for the first time – all the gold leaf and flat iconic images of the Byzantine and Romanesque images were eschewed for natural backgrounds, people of all classes, and a human, suffering Jesus. These ...

Chocolate

... we made our way to some of the cathedrals and then down to the main center of chocolate wonders. I sasw a block of chocolate the size of a human being that was being cut with a giant saw the crumbled with a sledge hammer and sold by the gram.

By now the day was winding down and we had a long drive ahead so we made our way back down the hill and drove leisurely home!!

Good job, well done!

Cioccolato

Hi Everyone!

This past weekend was the Perugia Chocolate Festival…It was amazing! Basically, I was in heaven. It was a chocolate lover’s paradise. We took a bus from Florence and arrived in Perugia by mid morning. It was a bitter day which gave me a perfect excuse to have some out of this world hot chocolate and churros. A bunch of my friends and I had lunch at a ...

I stayed at about 65 (MPH, now TomTom being in English is off the metric system so he tells me my speed in MPH and how many miles we have to various destinations) and we went through Verona towards Bologna. In Modena we tried to get off the autobahn for some food and I made two major ...

Near to The Blue Hole, one of Belize's largest protected areas, Half Moon Caye Natural Monument, encompasses 10,000 acres of the atoll and 15 square miles of surrounding waters. I am teamed up with Chad from (guess) America of course. I havent dove in 3 years and he is the same so the bright spark of a Dive master put us together. We struggled to put all our dive gear together as we had forgotten everything. The dive ...

The highlight was that we brought some small bottles of bubbles with us and gave some to the 5 and 6 year old boys, Marko and Michele (pronounced MICK-el-e). The evidently do not have a word for bubbles in Italian and we had a lots of fun showing them how to use them....grandma ...

Assisi, the city of St. Francis

... a medieval city; every building is ancient and built with stone, colorful flags on thin metal poles were pounded into the facades around the piazza making the experience seem more romantic and historical. After some deliberating and sitting on the street for awhile, the last half of my group (the ones that didn't push their way into the religious boarding house of Casa Papa Giovanni to get their rooms first) were sent down the street to a HOTEL! I was extremely pleased that I wasn't ...

Ches had a cross between a pate and a mousse made with mushrooms, and a cheese (parmesan) sauce. Rebecca had gnocchi, that was the lightest we have ever tasted. I suspect they used whipped mashed potato, and probably even whipped the egg whites separately (rather than just ...
