Suur-Liiva 15a Haapsalu, Estonia
Katri and I spent a couple of days last week in Estonia, just across a narrow portion of the Baltic Sea from Helsinki. It was a brief glimpse into what, for me, was a pretty unusual place. Estonia and Finland share a complicated, yet mostly placid, relationship. The main connection between the two places is the language--Estonian is similar to Finnish, at times mutually intelligible, and this coupled with the proximity between the countries makes for plenty of ...
Haapsalu, Estonia traveeseHello dear friends, this time Mara typing, i don' t know if i am able to make the story short, so be patient. The road from Padise to Haapsalu was long and a bit boring. It rained a bit. First we were very much in hurry because we wanted to catch the boat to Vormsi at around 12, but when we felt we wont make it, we slowed down. Next boat at around 6 pm, so we have lots of time. Some shopping in Haapsalu in a weird place with lots of punks and people with USA flags ...
Diby, Estonia tommmartens... stragglers from the night before staggering around looking for their friends, and not looking happy about the early kiddies music - haha!!We managed to catch up on a bit of sleep & do some sunbathing! The jellyfish were all over the sea - Paul insisted on pulling one out with a feather to look at it, but actually ended up bursting it we think - it didn't look too healthy afterwards anyway ...
Tuksi, Estonia no1pablo... the road and said 'see the track, it is there'. Well where was the sign! We felt a little silly, but there you go. It didn't have much water coursing through it, but it was quite high. You could also see the different layers of rock down the cliff face and it all looked quiet lovely. We now had the task of driving back to the other side of Estonia to a place called Haapsalu. We wanted to take another route (not going through Tallinn), but ...
Haapsalu, Estonia laine... excellent camping lunch at 5pm at a bus stop in Nõva -- black bread, sausage, yummy tomatoes, cucumbers, cheese (thanks to Bethany for superuseful Swiss army knife, circa 1990, still sharp) - probably some church, can't really remember much else, it was a long day - finally getting to Haapsalu after many many hours of hard biking ...
Haapsalu, Estonia mklots... Geröll überschüttet, die Deppen. XXXXX The special daytrip was reduced to only to the island Saaremaa as the ferry to Hiiumaa drove 4 times only per day. Therefor continue to ensure that I can see the footballgame from the worldcup 2006 Switzerland vs. France in Tallinn. I almost falled while I passed a roadwork because they used fist-sized stones for roadsurface!
------- I ...
Tallinn, Estonia jaines... cafe menu secured a hangover-friendly brunch and reinvigorated we decided to hit the town. With the amount of ice around and a biting wind literally hitting the street was more likely than not, but we tottered around anyway, admiring the local architecture and paint selections of the houses as we slid on by. Major attractions here include the ruined ...
Haapsalu, Estonia technotrekker... and the caves near Vään-Joesuu. When you hear these placenames, you would think you were somewhere in Middle-Earth fighting Cave Trolls and Uru-Kai like in The Lord of the Rings. Ele's car had been through such an ordeal the last few days that we needed to go through the car wash twice to make it presentable, and it still didn't look like the car that had picked me up some days earlier. I then met her daughter Sandra and had a great night on the comfy sofa.
